Is that the case? Is there a flaw in Gib logic in this type of competitive auction?

hi welcome to the wonderful world of bridge. I actually teach beginning bridge using the books you are refering to. let me see if i can give you some answers to your questions. 1) The point count ranges were changed to reflect the current style of bidding in the usa. I remember when the original series was published i questioned the use of the 16-18 no trump range. Even then the no trump range of 15-17 was predominant in the states. 2) The book "bidding" is the first of 5 texts used in this series to teach bridge. the course is designed to give you the basic skills needed when deciding partscore versus game. Higher level bidding is (i presume) deemed to difficult for this course level. ( note every time i teach the portion in the 2nd chapter re: scoring many students throw up their hands in disgust and confusion.) 3) Responding to 1nt is taught early on because there are fewer bids and options when partner opens no trump than when he opens 1 of a suit. The no trump opener has a limited range of points (15-17) thus it is easier for the student to decide upon a course of action. 4) Higher level bidding will be discussed in future texts. the series of books consists of Bidding - basic bidding and a light discourse on overcalls, takeout doubles and stayman - some card play instruction as well Play of the Hand - includes review of bidding learned in "bidding" plus how to play the cards Defense - another review of bidding plus defensive leads and signals and defensive strategy Commonly used conventions - just as the title says More commonly used conventions - ditto hang in there. by the end of the 8th chapter you and your friends will be able to sit around around the kitchen table and enjoy bridge as much as we oldtimers do! i would suggest playing as often as possible to reinforce what you are learning Good luck Fred

Personally i would texas and then key card for spades. After the key card bid i would ask kings (specific or otherwise). This would promise all of the controls and the q of spades. Partner has an easy 7nt bid after that. (he can count 4c, 4d, 1h and 5/6 spades, assuming spades split)

Perhaps i used the wrong name. The interface im talking about is the one where you can play, kibitz bbo via your browser. The beta version was called bbo tv i have no idea what it is called now.

When kibitzing i usually look at only 1 hand. I like comparing my play,defense and bidding judgement with that of the best player at the table. This provides me with a valuable learning experience by allowing me to "play" against and with the best players in the world. Using bbo tv i cant find the option to choose which hand to kibitz.Therefore i must look at all 4 hands...not the best way for me to"play" as a kibitzer. Is this currently possible to view only 1 hand? If not, is there a plan to provide this feature?

Frankly if a team included a player that was not elegible to play in an event i would be forced to disqualify the entire team. Even if the team did not know that the player was inelegible the fact is : he participated in (and won) matches in which he was ineligible to play . Thus the team benefited from the play of an inelegible player. Was the player really inelegible? Did the conditions of contest indicate that a person that has represented their country should petition the acbl to determine how many points their level of expertise dictated? Is it a given that the above mentioned petition should be made regardless of the conditions of contest ?I dont know the answer but i guess since the acbl subsequently disqualified him (after having won the event) they feel that he was inelegible. let's say the team was disqualified. How would the results be adjusted. What would happen to all of the teams that the disqualified team had defeated. How deeply should one go to adjust the event results. What a nightmare! Im sure the acbl said "lets avoid that hassle and just disqualify the player and let the team keep its victory". As an aside i too played in the event and was beaten by the team in question in the quarter finals. They outplayed us and deserved to win the match and would have won with or without the internationalist.

gioco negli estati uniti. e di solito giochiamo 5 maggiore. quindi per me tutti i tre licitazione mostrano. 4+ nel minore y 4 nel maggiore con 11-18 punti honori. Con una mano con 3334 avrei ridichiarato 1sa (con 11-14)invece di mostrare il maggiore.

Perche doppo 2 fiori non ha detto 3 cuadri, appogia di fiori con uno o no quadri forzante a manche. Cosi pard puo valutare su mano molto meglio . Non lo so ,se 3 quadri vuol dire il Ass di quadri va bene pero se 3 quadri vuol dire il rei non mi ha aiutato. Pero lo stesso chiedero assi. si abbiamo abastanza controli diro 6 fiori.

Sounds to me like pard has 3361 distribution with good overcall. I bid spades. I'm willing to bet the different interpretations of this sequence will be based on which continent you play bridge.

thx but i have suit play. Suit play discusses how to play various suit combinations ,Ill maccino does that and more. (at least i hope so) Il maccino program analyzes different lnes of play and is influenced by what you know about the opponensts hands.
