  1. Much appreciated Marlowe. I figured it must be incorporated in some system somewhere.
  2. Using the 2/1 system would it be feasible that 1NT (15-17) - 2C; 2NT could mean both 4-card majors with a maximum 17 count? I have no other use for a 2NT rebid by opener after Stayman. Just wondering. Thanks!
  3. I use the "mouse over" feature. After the profile comes up, if I hold the mouse on the name, the profile stays shown. But if I move the cursor to the green table top, the profile only stays up for 6 seconds before disappearing automatically. Maybe give that a try?
  4. Hi readingrox My name is Babs and I am Mike's table manager. Either Mike or I would be pleased to send you the updated information on the Wisskers On Bridge sessions. You can contact us at wisskersonbridge@gmail.com Mike's BBO ID is now 'wisskers' (previously M_DornWiss). He is an experienced and funny teacher who previously mentored Fred Gitelman of BBO fame. Mike has added a Saturday session to the current Thursday and Friday and has moved some times around to accommodate his students. He provides a lot of information in a session so be prepared to take notes on all his tips! Thanks for your interest. bABsG
  5. Yup - have had this happen more than once and received the same explanation from Help. My guess would be that some boards might "time out" before being played 16 times. I remember playing one board brilliantly and was so proud of my declaring. But the board never did register so all I had was a memory. Alas.
  6. I am not aware of a way to check player's completion rate (other than my own which show which shows under User Profile), but when you start a table as host you can set a minimum completion rate to help cut down on runners.
  7. In addition to Paul's information, you might want to check this out on BBO forums: http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/68892-bidding-table-and-dealer-source/
  8. Hi BBO guys I suggest that when an undo is requested then subsequently cancelled by the requester, that the alert read "Undo Cancelled" rather than "Undo Denied". Not sure how many times I have seen upset opps being accused of not allowing an undo when it was the player who initiated the undo who decided for some reason to cancel it. Just a thought eh. Babs
  9. Hi BBO help guys I host special events for private and public clubs on BBO (Barbara Seagram Play and Learns, Josh Donn, Rich Reisig summer tourneys, Ron Klinger coming up next Sunday, Paul Gipson today, etc.). I use Chat Manager for non-audio sessions and BBO audio for those who like voice. Both Chat Manager and BBO Audio are incredibly wonderful. However, I would love to be able to insert a line of chat into the lines that I have already entered to Chat Manager. I try to remember to add blank lines (which can be edited later if I forget something) but I often forget. When I test the finished lines on a teaching table, I sometimes have forgotten to mention something somewhere in the middle of the text. Most time I can edit it in - but it would be so nice to be able to insert a forgotten line. There may be a way to do this already - but if not it would be a most welcome software addition. Thanks for listening!! BabsG
  10. I dig "live' partners. Have met enough 'dead' beats. That must have been some party Phil!!! Good luck dan106
  11. Lots happening in the Beginner Intermediate Lounge. Go to this link for a calendar of event - all FREE!! Hosted play times are a good way to meet people in a friendly environment. Go to the BILies Retreat section of the Public Clubs. To become a paid member and be able to access the library, mentoring program and other benefits, check out www.bilbridge.com Link - oops must have forgotten to include: http://www.brownbearsw.com/freecal/BILBridge Yes - agree with 1eyedjack - some info on your system/time zone/conventions
  12. I used Paul Thurston's "Bridge: 25 Steps to Learning 2/1" - well set out with little quizzes at the end of each chapter to test your learning. It was awarded Book of the Year by the American Bridge Teachers' Association. Good luck - you will love playing 2/1!!!
  13. Seems like on the last BBO upgrade the red 'speaking indicator' on the slider of the web version audio was scrapped. As a result, if there are multiple commentators/speakers at a vugraph/teaching table, one cannot tell when the other(s) are speaking or when they have finished speaking. There have been many more occasions since the upgrade when the commentators are talking over one another (making it annoying for both the specs and the speakers). May we please have the red indicator returned? Thanks! :) Over and out.
  14. I guess my suggestion was more to the idea of having a "chat" button to click so that the chat did not appear under the table. To click on the button would set up the 'chat' tab on the right hand side of the screen (rather than having to drag the line down and then reset it). Hope that makes sense. Thanks!
  15. Would it be possible to have a tab that can be clicked to stop chat while playing (rather than having to drag the line beneath the table downward)? Dragging works but resets the table area. It would be nice to just not receive the chat. I was playing this morning and my opps chatted constantly - I finally 'blackened' them. It would have been wonderful to just have clicked a button to have some peace. I usually stop the vugraph and friend notification when I play. Bot touneys are great - no chat!! Just a thought. Thanks for your consideration. BabsG
  16. On the web client version go to List all Tables > Team Matches > Create a team match (button on the lower left). I did my first team match yesterday and went off like a dream! Good luck
  17. I do special events on BBO for the BIL and have run across this problem numerous times. Many of my presenters are World Class and are quite conversant with playing on BBO. But when it comes to setting up and working a teaching table, they are either uncomfortable or clueless being the host. Some would like to do audio but are not familiar with the new version. Some would like to load special hands, either from files or from tournaments, and be able to reload after play. Some would just like to not have to worry about controlling the table, but would like to demonstrate from all 4 seats. At the moment I am working with a World Class Star who would like me to host the table and upload/reload the hands, but he would like to sit in all 4 seats to demonstrate bidding and play. Of course, this is not possible. I realize that BBO is not in the 'teaching' business, but I would PAY BBO to be able to accommodate World Class and Stars who volunteer their time to assist us emerging players. An consideration given to software changes that would allow the host of a teaching table to seat a player (other than the host) in all 4 seats would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Babs
  18. I started learning bridge 2 years ago in the Beginners Intermediate Lounge. After a faltering start (attending senior community bridge classes) and continually being rejected as a 'beginner' at local bridge clubs, I had more or less given up the notion to learn the game. I heard through a friend about BBO and logged in occasionally to watch the experts play. For some reason, I stumbled into the BIL. I enrolled in the Beginner Bridge Program (Bridge 101) and got immediately hooked. I have nothing but admiration for the BIL: Maureen, the teachers, the mentors, the special guests and presenters and the volunteers who dedicate their time and share their expertise with us students. If not for these amazing people, I might be knitting socks rather than experiencing the thrill of going down in 7NT doubled.
  19. I think adding +anchat+ into the table description allows new members to chat.
  20. Thank you thank you! - That's the one. :) :)
  21. Help please  A couple of months ago in the BBO news you featured a quiz on how to play different card combinations. Unfortunately I can't remember the author but had a feeling that the information was posted somewhere on the forum. Is there a link on the forum that shows how to play card combinations? Thanks SOOOOOOO much. BabsG
