  2. My Chat Manager has not worked since BBO went to version 3. I lost all my saved chat plus cannot save any new lines. Bit of a nuisance.
  3. Hi everyone I have been assisting teachers on BBO for 10 years so have gained an acquaintance with many good teachers. Rates and session format vary but if you are looking for lessons, there is probably a teacher out there who will suit your needs at a price you can afford. I change my BBO profile often to show some of the teachers or ongoing sessions that I particularly find helpful. This week: Marc Smith - groups starting Tuesday, November 30, Marc will be starting a 5-session series on Doubles. John Rayner - groups starting Monday, November 22 John will be a 2-part bridge series on "Fighting it Out": tips for the battle in part score. Gavin Wolpert and his mum Hazel Wolpert - group classes to be announced. Beginner/Intermediate classes and Advanced Bidding using Gavin's Master system. Adam Parrish (Parrish the Thought) - groups ongoing Monday morning and Thursday Steve Conrad - each morning Tuesday to Sunday on BBO - Zoom, covering a variety of subjects. If you would like any more information on these or any other teachers, please let me know by BBO chat - my ID is "bABsG" on BBO. Thanks and happy bridging to all. Babs
  4. Hi Nancy I have also been taking Rob and Gavin's classes and would be happy to practice with you. I sent you a mail through BBO with my email address. Contact me if interested. Thanks! Babs
  5. You sure can. Click on the History tab at the far right of your screen. The hand you just played will show up at the bottom of the column. Click on the the hamburger (3 blue lines in the blue box) and choose Export. Then choose Upload deal to table. It will automatically upload for you to bid/play the hand again. Great learning tool. Hope that helps Babs
  6. Go over to the right hand side and you will see a tab called "Account". Click on that tab. That will bring you to a screen with various heading on the top - Profile, Settings, Convention Cards, etc. Choose Profile. Under where it says "Real name" it will say "Other". Just type in the details of what you are playing (system, carding, and any conventions). Hope that helps! Babs
  7. There is a teacher offering great lessons for his club members on BBO - and they are free. The lessons are geared to beginner/intermediate players and lots of people attend each session. I am an intermediate and learn something every session. His name is Kevin Wilson - his BBO IS is 'grypho'. The lessons are on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays at Noon New York Time and he LOVES when people chat. He also runs virtual games and provides post-mortems after each. Maybe come try out the lessons. Who knows, you may find a partner or he may be able to suggest someone who might be interested. Please don't give up. There are lots of us out there who are friendly and looking for people to play with on a regular basis. Beats going to the main and having opps and partners changing every board.
  8. Just tried and had no trouble. Maybe they were updating when you logged in?
  9. Paul - do you know if we still have to add +anchat+ to the description to let new players chat or has that been scrapped in the new version? Thanks!!
  10. Daisy - if you are talking about the Lobby chat - you can go to Account>Settings>Chat and turn off Lobby chat (make sure the circle is moved to the left and grey)
  11. The announcement is on the news page to the right hand side when you login - Free tourneys temporarily unavailable between 11AM-4PM US Eastern.
  12. Log into BBO - click on "Casual" - click on "Start a table" - choose type of scoring from drop down window (IMP, MP, ..) fill on privacy options by using sliders (allow kibs, etc.) click on seats and reserve for your friends (type in name then apply) - choose a relaxed game or a competitive game. Table should set up automatically reserving seats for players. Very easy to do. Have fun!
  13. Hi BBO guys I was playing with friends yesterday in the Prime Club. Was on an IMP table and uploaded random vugraphs for practice. We were on the second hand when I realized that I had not noted in the table description that we were using skype. My partner was declaring so I had time to make the change. I went into table options, changed the table description, hit apply and close. A new hand was dealt and we lost the results. The new hand was not a vugraph deal. So it was as if a new table had been started when all I wanted to do was change the table description. Is this a glitch? Ta Babs
  14. Thanks Diana So I assume that the 'purple' people now showing are either Prime members or BBOers who have not had their 30 day free trial. Just wondering.
  15. I've been a member of Prime for a couple of months. I joined primarily to use the advanced robots when practicing with my partner. Last week I noticed a substantial reduction of Prime symbols in people's profiles. I assumed that those who had not asked for the 30 day trial had been 'unpurpled" leaving just those who were Prime members and those on trial memberships with the Prime symbol in their profile. Then yesterday the purple was back for nearly everyone again. I can't figure out what is going on. So it is hard to know how many members there actually are.
  16. Hi there When using a teaching or bidding table you can upload the completed hand to be played again. Go to Results on the right, click on the hamburger (3 horizontal lines), click Export, click Upload Hand to Table. The hand can then be bid and played again.
  17. Couple of things: On V3 there is no notification on login of how many days/hours I have left on my robot rental. As far as I can see, there is no way to find out other than logging into the old flash version. I buy the robots by the week as $1 per day for advanced bots is beyond my pay grade. Last night I set up a table with 3 robots to fool around. My rental period must have been over. I received an automatic notice that bots had been rented and fee was deducted from my BBO$. I was given no option of renting by the week or the day. When I logged in later I saw that my balance had been reduced. It wasn’t until this morning that I decided to log into on the old version to see what exactly I had purchased. I saw I had <14 hours left on my bot rental. Your system automatically deducted for advanced bots. Will this be fixed in the near future? Thanks Babs (bABsG)
  18. Hi jazzek There are 4 tabs at the top of the right hand side - Friends, Hosts, Stars and Kibitzers Under the Friends tab there are 2 sections: Friends (people you made a friend and they have also made you a friend) Following (people who you like to watch but have not made you a friend) The Host tab lists all the people who can provide BBO help if you need it. They are called "Yellows". If you need help you can click on one of the names and send a private message. The Stars tab is all the BBO stars that are logged in at the moment. The Kibitzer tab lists all the BBO members that are watching the table that you are either playing or watching. If you are playing and want to know who is watching you, you can click on the Kibitzer tab and it will list their names. There are all sorts of gadgets you can use to sort members (by name, by status or by category (if you have members colour coded). Hope that helps.
  19. Chick's counting classes are held in the BILies Retreat Public Club on BBO. When you sign on to BBO you will be in the "Lobby". Click on the "Casual" button on the left hand side. Then click on "All Public and Private Clubs", then on "All Public Clubs". Look down the list and you will see "BILies Retreat". Click on "Show Tables" - then on Open or Full tables to see who is playing. Alternately, you can make Chick a "friend" and just click on her name and join table when she is holding her class. Hope that helps.
  20. Well - there was a site bboskill.com that rated players just as saf has suggested. It is still operational but hasn't been updated in about 4 years. It has me rated as " expert - " BUT I am nothing more than an intermediate at best. So - not sure that method is any better than self rating.
  21. At the "Teaching Table" are you using the Options button at the top of the table? When clicked there should be a pull down menu with Teaching Options at the bottom of the menu.
  22. Hi katiebeth Sure you can play as partners. From the lobby go to the left hand side and click on Competitive, then Tournaments. This will take you to a page that lists all the pending, running and completed tournaments. The page will default to Pending/All tournaments, and will list all the tournaments that will be starting within the next 2 hours. Look for the type of tournament that you want to play in: individual or pairs. Click on the register button on the right hand side. It will ask who you want to partner. There are many free tourneys, some you must be a member of a private club and some are open to all. Yo can click on the Title of the tourney to get the specifics. Have fun!!!
  23. I went to an expert on this one and got this reply: That is a "treatment" that can be used in any system, whether 2/1 or SAYC or Goren or Precision or whatever. IMO that particular agreement is pointless. Responder already knows within a single point how big the NT hand is. What happens when Responder is 4=4=4=1 or 4=4=5=0 with basically a yarb (+) and is planning on passing any normal response to Stayman? Does Responder have to guess which major to play in at the three level, already too high, and from the wrong side? Should the partnership then use a rebid by Responder of 3m as something, perhaps to have Opener rebid a major? Much too convoluted. Perhaps one could use that 2NT rebid as a special circumstance when having opened 1NT with a six card minor...but in that case an agreement could be made simply to rebid 3C/D after the Stayman inquiry...you can see how obscure these approaches could get, never mind how rare, how anti-KISS, and how much of a test on the memory. I have seen auctions where the NT opener has rebid 2NT, and I roll my eyes every time. My advice is to "fuggeddabouddit". Thanks to all for input!
