  1. Can someone provide a link to the movement for a Rotating-Team-of-Four tournament for 4 tables? This is for a fun tournament at our local club. Instead of playing an Individual Tournament, the idea is to play with your regular partner the whole time, but during the course of the tournament, every other partnership will be your teammates once and your opponents once. With 4 tables it is 8 pairs, and say, 6 boards against every pair, would equate to 42 boards to complete the tournament. Any help will be appreciated.
  2. This is the sort of answer I was looking 4. P NEVER preempts on level 3 with a 7 card suit, while I ALWAYS do. We argue about it all the time, but no-one is able to convince the other. How am I supposed 2 be able 2 differentiate when a 2 level preempt contains 6 cards or 7 cards?
  3. How does partner know the difference? Surely this can get u in2 trouble as well?
  4. Why would u want 2 pre-empt at the 2 level when u can at the 3 level? Advantages? Disadvantages? Seat? Vulnerability? Really weak suit?
  5. I was taught SAYC. Here is an extract from the SAYC booklet – Other responses to 1NT: 1NT — 3♣, 3♦ = a six-card or longer suit and invitational to 3NT. So how about this auction? 1NT-3♦ 3NT (accepting the invitation) 4♣ (cue-bid, 1st or 2nd round ♣ control) West does not know about the ♣ void but should at least make a mild slam try, intending to signoff at 5♦ if necessary. SAYC uses Blackwood, so the auction continues – 4NT East with the ♦AK plus a ♣ void can blast 6♦?

  7. How's this one? Random BBO "expert" proudly announcing "Gerber" is his BBO profile? :P

  9. This is just a teaching aid.... That is precisely the point. We have all sorts of bridge teachers, and inevitably they teach their own interpretation/methods of whatever system their students are learning. The EBU document has this Acol writeup on their website. If all teachers in England used the same source to teach from, beginners are started off on the same footing.
  10. Save me try trouble of looking for the CCs by providing the link. :) Thanks again. Do the Australians, New Zealanders and the Canadians have an official system sanctioned by the home union? Does anyone have a link to it?
  11. Thanks for this Zel. I believe that EVERY HOME UNION should have something like this on their website. A quick browse through the Acol file and it seems fairly comprehensive. This file was updated in December 2006. It has two versions of Acol on it, 1) Standard English Acol Foundation Level , and 2), Standard English Modern Acol. Possibly most important of all it has this ryder on the last page - Acknowledgments: Standard English Acol was developed by Sandra Landy with the help of the Bridge for All drafting team Mike Pomfrey, Jean Patefield and Simon Ainger. Bridge for All is the nationally approved method of learning the game formally recognised by the Open College Network. If any forum posters serve on a home union, I strongly suggest that you follow the example set by the English Bridge Union! Well done to them! Just one quick question on this from me: Is the "Foundation Level" version meant for beginners? I still need to start studying this.
  12. Which unions have an official system on their website sanctioned by them? I want to start with that (not all the variations that are available on the net). Then I can join one on the online clubs who all play the same system. Everyone will know what the bids mean without the need to alert. I think I saw an Acol club somewhere. I am sure I will be able to find it again. Can you provide me with the link to any official system sanctioned by your union?
  13. I was given SAYC to learn as a novice but have been repeatedly told it is bad and should switch to something else. So what system would you recommend a novice to learn and why? If you vote "Something else" tell me what it is and I will add it to the poll.
