Have you tried it with GIB having a hand with clubs and diamonds, but too weak to bid 2♣ as a response?
-
If you double and then rebid 3NT afterwards it seems to usually show a weaker hand and then it probably wouldn't have raised.
-
I noticed in a recent update that they GIB was going to make certain weak bids more easily than before, but there's no way it should make them with this bad of a hand. The description also says it should have better than it does. I thought forcing NT meant it was supposed to bid something, and it even does have a 3-card minor it can bid. Also, why did my bid show 14- HCP? Does that mean I could have 0? Doesn't east have a hand too good to make a bid that only shows 11-12 total pts? If it will not correct with this sequence, what I can bid such that it will?
-
Wow, good answer. I do think that it should give a good amount more value to setting the contract. I got 0% matchpoints for this so it really did hurt.

If it's known that I have 4+ spades, then east has 1 more at the most, and west has only 1, meaning it might as well just try to take a trick on spades if it leads a spade since a high spades isn't going to do it any good on any future spade tricks.
-
Well, I'd still pass if I were north. Bidding or doubling would show more strength than north has, and then it'd worry that you'd jump to 3NT or something if it bids again and you have stuff. And if north bids again and you have nothing, then it can't make the bid. From north's point of view, I don't see any reason to bid in this scenario.
-
How is that different than the original hand?
-
So the real flaw is that bidding in competition shows more points than it should, when the initial pass after 4♥ should have already shown no slam interest.
-
And yet, in the bidding description in-game, it does say it is a forcing 2 over 1 if you bid 2♣ as a response to 1♦, but only with an unpassed hand. If this isn't the case then this description should be changed.
-
http://tinyurl.com/dxwd6vn Ugh, I thought I made it pretty obvious I wanted to play NT here, and yet it bids something else anyway, even with a 4/3/3/3 hand. I think I could have made 3NT, too, considering they barely have any way of winning anything more than 2 tricks on ♠, 1 on ♥, and 1 on ♦, but I did not see any way to make 4♥. And why does 3NT only show 5 or fewer ♠; shouldn't it be fewer than that? Edit: One more issue with this. I wish my bidding NT would show only 4 hearts, not 4-5 hearts. If I had 5, I would have opened 1 heart unless I had 6+ clubs, in which case I wouldn't have a balanced enough hand to bid NT, so the only scenario that I can see this should ever be the bid is with 4 hearts.
-
Still, it should have a stopper to bid that, especially considering how easily a player bidding 6♠ could have a singleton or void club. And west really should have doubled 6NT with that hand.

I wish GIB would bid something with this good of a hand
AyunuS replied to AyunuS's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Oh, hey friend. They use Cappeletti, so double is for penalty, and 2♣ is for 1-suited hand, where I would respond 2♦ and then it could pass. Double probably usually is going to get more points here but then again it's also a much bigger risk whereas 2♦ is a really safe bid. But either is still better than passing. -
Basically never bid the bids that say a strong rebiddable suit and 25+ total points. It really will assume you have that much when you'd probably double or something initially if you really ever did, and then it'll probably make you have to bid a slam and you'll fail. I wish those bids were weaker and longer or something since they are in competition.

cue bid response to takeout double - followup
AyunuS replied to Stephen Tu's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
It seems to me that it's a way of showing your short suit. If you have 2-♦ and no 5-card suit, you must have at least 2 4-card suits, so it seems to ask for you to bid your short suit in this case so that it can pick between the other suits you have 4+ of. Interesting approach, but it seems to me that it should work no matter what hand you'd have in this situation. -
http://tinyurl.com/7ruzseq I really don't like whatever GIB uses to determine whether or not to bid after a takeout double, but I must say this was one of the worst passes I've ever seen by it. I've seen it pass with 0 points and a 2-card trump suit before, but here it had a really long suit and I see no reason why it didn't bid it. These hands can even make 6♦ by ruffing enough of the spades. The double's description was something like takeout double -- 15-22p.
-
But what if you have 17 HCP, don't have support, and then then everyone passes and you let the opponents get a level 1 bid when your team had 20+ HCP and could have easily made 1NT?
-
I was just playing a game where I bid 1♦, LHO passes, my partner bids 1♠, RHO doubles, and then it says I need 18-19 HCP just to bid 1NT? How could I possibly need so many? Here was the hand I noticed this on; we're not even vulnerable. http://tinyurl.com/73htqme

Unbalanced hand jumps to 6NT for no good reason?
AyunuS replied to AyunuS's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
I thought if a human made the bid then I thought their name would still show up there even if they didn't finish the hand. I could be wrong, but when I play outside of tournies anyway, whoever makes the first bid in a seat gets their name attached to the entire rest of the hand, even if they leave. -
http://tinyurl.com/7x8q535 I was annoyed at this hand in the tourney I just did where my "expert" partner failed to make a 6♦x bid that I thought was like impossible to fail. I looked at the rest of the people that bid this hand and noticed that on one of them, GIB made a very unusual bid. Not only did it have diamond support and a splinter to go with it, but that splinter was a very bad thing to bid 6NT with. Noticed how bad 6NT fails with the likely club lead. It shouldn't bid 6NT with that club suit. What's also bad is that 6♦ and 6♥ are great bids with these hands and 6NT prevents them from being bid.
-
Even if you don't want to just jump to 4h, you can still be 2NT, and when it shows a feature, you know it's not a bare minimum and then you can go to 4h safely. I don't really see what there is to gain by bidding spades when you already have an 9-card heart fit and it won't make a weak 2 with another 4-major so you have at most 8 spades, so you might as well just assume hearts should be the right suit. Bidding spades probably helps the opponents make a better lead more than it'll help GIB bid the right thing.
