  1. Hi, I think the behavior may be different when both parties to the message are kibbing. Will try to reproduce this in the next while, to be sure.
  2. If one sends chat to someone else just as they log out or are disconnected the chat is instead displayed at the table, lobby or tourney, depending on where one is "located". This can result in some very undesirable outcomes: several times I have been involved in private discussion concerning cardplay or bidding at an open expert table and the recipient of the message was disconnected - my private message was displayed at the table. My opinions are intended to be private and I would not want to cause any offence or public criticism of any player, especially when they have been generous enough to allow specs. Is it possible to guarantee that private messages are just that: private?
  3. Hi, The museum of archaeology would be a good way to spend a couple of hours - give you a real insight into the ancient history of ireland: http://www.museum.ie/en/intro/archaeology-and-ethnography-museum.aspx There are several other branches of the National Museum at different locations around the city. In Wicklow, which is not far from Dublin, you can visit Glendalough which is very beautiful, even in January when it is likely to be raining. http://www.glendalough.ie/ Hope you have a wonderful time in our capital city.
  4. Agree with Eamongall 100% with regard to the playing standard of the web bots. I often play against them using the pc client version of BBO and their play and defence is usually pretty good. But last night playing against the web based ones - they were just awful. One of them went 2 off in 5H with 12 tricks on top! They did not compete for any partscores and the defence was extremely weak: declarer finessed a spade into one and he very kindly returned a spade into the AQ9, with defensive tricks available outside. Whats going on GIB? Am a huge fan of BBO and appreciate that there may be an issue with computing resources here. That being the case, perhaps the pc client version could be maintained in parallel with the web one, with all the same features so that users can enjoy and appreciate the Bots at their best.
  5. What to do if opps bid 6D over 5H.
  6. Hi all, I am looking for the modern treatment of transfer responses to a short club opening with 2/1. Have searched the web to no avail. With the older version of this, opener rebid 1 of the transfer suit with 3+ cards and 1NT with 12-14 and < 3 cards in the transferred suit. The updated version opener rebids 1 of the transferred suit with 2+ cards and 1NT with 18-19. This has obvious advantages. However, I am unsure of the recommended continuations - so if anyone can point me to a source of information, I would much appreciate it - prefer not to re-invent the wheel that others have so carefully crafted. all the best, jeannie
  7. x sounds like a game try in spades, where 3S is comp. The 2S bid can be wide ranging. Penalty X seems unlikely on the auction and position.
  8. Many thanks for all the helpful replies. I was most interested to learn the pros and cons of capping either the maximum or minimum score available as opposed to a VP conversion, depending on the nature of the field.
  9. I would be interested to hear opinions on the use of "across the field" cross imp scoring in a pairs competition of mixed ability. 12 board matches with a cap of 36 Imps available for a win but unlimited Imps to lose. How does this compare with Butler scoring where Imps are converted to VPs with a maximum available score of 25 and a maximum loss possible of -5.
