  1. I like 2S, to be followed by 3D, which must show a game forcing minor 2 suiter
  2. This is the hand for criss-cross, where 2D is a game forcing raise. Stoppers are bid up the line, and it is easy to determine whether to stop in 3NT or try for a diamond slam
  3. i believe that NF stayman followed by 3 of a minor describes a 4-6 or 4-7, which does not have game going values (adjusted for whatever notrump range you play) Pass is a call designed to go for a big swing, either way
  4. in my methods, a 2D opener is flannery, therefore north does not open. South opens 1S, after which north bids 1NT (forcing). South can now bid 3D over which north bids 4H, kickback for diamonds. South responds 5C (2 + diamond queen. North should now sign off in 5D fearing two club losers. South, however, is in position to go on, knowing his club king is protected, and the excellent diamond slam is reached.
  5. I would upgrade if the club nine were the ten, particularly with one partner with whom I play 14.5 to 17. These very close adjustments also need to take into account the form of scoring and (if known to you) the skills and tendencies of the opponents.
  6. If you are really thinking about slam here, your rebid should have been 3D, not two. The seventh diamond is key, it allows you to play opposite a singleton, and it makes your hand worth almost eight tricks on its own. 2D is a significant underbid. Over 3D, partner will see the slam possibility, and should bid 3S or 4D. The bypass of 3NT indicates a tolerance for slam exploration, and a cue bidding sequence should get there
  7. I like whereagles' idea of dividing opening bids into ranges, but where does this one really belong. With no texture and the stiff ace of the suit partner is most likely to bid, I think this is far closer to minimum range than even medium. I'd like to know if anyone has run it through K/R evaluator and where it falls. Because I am treating it as minimum (at least until auction develops more favorably), my choice is to open 1D, even though it distorts minor suit shape. It will make the 2C rebid over 1S automatic, and leave room to see if there may be a chance for a game.
