  1. Hi. Is anyone else having problems with GIB timing out in the daylong tourneys? I've been at the Daylong MP2 now for over an hour and still on board 4. Keeps dumping me from table when GIB times out
  2. Thanks barmar I wasn't aware of that
  3. Firstly congratulations for updating to HTML, the new layout looks good. However for us getting on in years with shaky hands who often don't click on the correct card 1st time could we have the new software only select the card when you actually release the mouse button as it is now. If you hold and move off the card it's deselected. Also, (and i realise the just declare tourneys are a bit of fun), could we have the bidding box up for a tiny bit longer ? Trying to make sense of 6 - 8 bids in the 4 seconds the box appears for at the start of a deal is a tad annoying. Just a couple of suggestions to improve what is a vast improvement.
  4. Never ever ever try to bid game in minor suit. you can be showing GIB single suit with 10 pts & 6+ cards in suit in suit it will always and i mean always either take you out in NT, (often against opps suit bid with nothing but XX) with 'only' 3 card support, or put you in slam with 4 card support when it could have single raised you 2 rounds of bidding previously.
  5. Myself & P play 3♣ over 2NT is singleton ♠ (3 ♦ is singleton ♥) reasoning is after 2NT (20-22 pts must be 4333 for our system any other low 20 count we open 2♣ and rebid 2NT) we find that keeping the ♥ & ♠ for natural bids wastes far less space, and (lets be honest) most times opposite 20-22 flat with any 4-9 pt hand you'd prob want to be in 3NT anyway, with 10 plus (as in this case) you'd be investigating slam or looking to escape in minor game so why not get lots of bids off your chest with just one ! There is always pass available for minimum hands. So 2NT-3♣-3NT is don't worry about ♠ leave me in it unless you have a very good reason, 2NT-3♣-3♥ means 4♥and semi-stop in ♠ and can be passed or raised (with 4), or 3NT if singleton ♠ is honour card or /4♣/♦ with 5 card minor, and 2NT-3♣-3♠ is pick a minor level dependent on point count, 0-4 4 level 5-9 5 level with 3NT still available as slam interest in minor.
  6. I'm sure your maths is correct but I can't help thinking your logic is flawed. on dealing the 2nd card to oneself there are only 48 left in the pack as, (assuming a normal deal and not a goulash), partner and ops have three between them ;)
  7. Thanks for that. At least if I play it that way all the time I'll get 2 tricks more times than I'll get 1
  8. Playing the odds what is the best way to play the following, assuming no bidding from either op and no problems getting between hands. Is it possible to play for 2 tricks or is that only when AK is doubleton with an op? Q98x opposite Jxxx
  9. If you're W and sitting opposite GIB you'll probably have bidding something along the lines of, 1♦ - 2♠ - 3♠ (cue bid showing 6-12 total points and 3 card support)and before you know it there you are at the 4 level with the fewer points on your side :D Personally though I have to side with P_Marlowe, I don't think N is strong enough for 2♠ and as E bid ♥, I don't think S will want any part of the auction except maybe a X in about 2 rounds when W has shown 3 card support for his Ps major !
  10. Totally agree. Though GIB gets better at each upgrade, and I speak as someone who for the best part of 5 years now has seen the best (and probably worst) of GIB, it still can't support minor suits. It will show preference for a major with 2 cards despite having 5 card support for a minor you've bid. [hv=pc=n&s=sakhkt875d76caq86&w=s975haqj9dkqt42cj&n=sq2h42daj98ct9743&e=sjt8643h63d53ck52&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1h2dpp3cp3hppdp4sppp]399|300[/hv] GIB was N, why not pass at 3rd turn ? This hand was played just now in an instant tourney (Great invention by the way, saves waiting around when you just want to sit and play). 3♣ was making a couple of times and 3♣+1 though bid differently for a higher score than 4♠ down 1. Thankfully E was over bidding too or 3♥X would have been carnage !
