Artificial Openings - How to Direct?
spwdo replied to Yzerman's topic in BBO Tournament Directors Forum
hi, i ve run a few tourneys to say the least and i hardly ever get a call from a non alert or poor explantion of sayc based systems, maybe three calls in all the tounrys i hosted, however the calls i get from presision are countless, im not getting in any discussion about who alert/doesnt alert/explain correct/not correct just giving you the facts on it as i ve encounterd in my tourneys, when i come to a table after a call in most cases i see the first bid coming up(alerted) and explain as presision, this is done in most cases again after a query(cliked on that bid) but for lots of players around presision means nothing im afraid so we (several tds i know) have regulary problems with this and are forced to adjust on it. i most hereby also state that we off course will nevr encounter the ones that explains /alert in a proper way so off course not all, maybe even a majority does it the way it shoud, i cant say more without knowing proper % of players actually playing presision, i had the same issue for long with polish club till a polish td strted to help out on regular basis in my tourneys, complaints where down and if something happen, he dealt with it(no language barrier for him and he knows the system inside out)where i maybe would let it with a warning he adjusts and he made a change for polish club players so hopefully i will achieve that goal for presision as well sidedrift of the initial topic but i gave my idea on the matter already, full disclosure, limit of 1 point outside agreement and actually giving a range is simple a must marc -
hi, minor milestone in the "A Bridge Too Far" history as we host sunday this tourney for the 100the time, thanks to all subs, players and co-tds that made it possible to come this far, cant name them all defantly not players and subs  a couple of sidenotes 1. one time someone ask a co-td why the name " a bridge too far" as it reminds to a a unfortunaly event in wo II. i said to that td that it was a reminder of things happend in past/present/ future that makes a bridgeissues occuring in a tourney really minor in overall life view 2.a nother reason for the name "A Bridge Too Far" stands for a bid to far, saw that mutiple times as comment of kibitzers that saw a overbid occuring at the table 3. As things run now in our tourney ther will come another 100 more(this tourney is aldough the numbers enterring it very manageble thanks to the hard work of very excellent co-tds and a great group of regulars playing it) 4. when i made my first add to the lobby asking for a td to explain me the works on a tourney i got 2 replies, one helped me and her first thing she said after was"u did great and im sure i will host many more tourneys on bbo" maybe she was on to something 5.My mentor in the beginning was mike(trpltrbl) he taught me lot of things wtich still are helpfull today, thx mike 6.The co-td that helped me the most is without dought borko, im sure we hosted +100 by now, we came this far that i dont have to ask him nomore, he helps everyday unless he is playing rubber bridge live on monday and thursdays, after he comes online those days i always ask him to play total points, he turns me down every time lol. thx boris, u deserve a day in the sun 7.several yellows including uday/fred thanked me for my beeing online much and for my efforts , it was/is my pleasure and im very great and thank full that it allowed me to meet so many nice people 8.hosting a lot means also that some problems occur once in a while causing some players to get blacklisted(not getting into details)as a strong believer of second chances , sunday will be a day of new chances for the vast majority of members that got listed 9.thx team bbo(yellows and staff) for all you kindness and help, gerardo, beky, uday, nafiz, ritong are the first that come to mind 10.topnumber of actual registration are 122 tables thats 488 players at once, hope to see as many on sunday 11. want to name a few that i feel shoud be named and im sure i will forget a name :gwen,ece,aisha,sam,dave,irem,jan,ingrid,boris,ara... u really are friends in every meaning of the word thx marc ®spwdo

Rain thx will do that for the moment, still i hope it will be changed somewhere down the line thx

hi gwen vwd dear one, not much to add, only maybe that willing mentors all speak english also, a pupil maybe thinking he /she only can get mentorship from this td in the xtra languages they know and u forget all 17 languages u speak lol:))

According to your posting people turn off lobby chat. They don't read tournament rules. (so I should stop complaining!) Last but not least, I don't care whether they swore AT me or about my actions. It is UNACCEPTABLE
-
hi, couple of things i wanna add, acoording to bambi she changed rules of the tourney proir to start, not more then a week ago a yellow made a braodcast that lobby chat can be turned off, so lots regulars of this tourney were under the impperssion this was clocked. second to claus, really sorry but u have no clue what is going on tourneys, when i reported my first incident to abuse uday replied, i bann, hope that will improve manors but im afraid that this is really a small incident and lots wurse happen to be said(maybe not exact words but defantly amoung those line) third everybody shouldbut almost nobody does read tournament rules so live with it instead of complaining they dont(im soory but reality call) fourth. as uday told any baord can be adjusted either way even an A== if u think someone is to blaim five.when directing take decissions(adjust, mark as eneimies, boot, blacklist whatever it takes to enforce your rules as it is your tourney and your time) six. i strongly belive several complaints about running an uncloked event saying this is wasted time is no reason to cancell tourney, if not cancelled the f-word was nevr spoken about your actions , wasnt personal adreesed at the td if read correct, was about the cancell of the tourney. seven. even if their is only one good nice pair in a tourney i see reason to continui just for their sake(forget the losers and think about the nice ones, who on earth can do good for all) eight.uday/fred bbo do a good job in abuse, report and u`ll hear/see the results z.t needs to be inforced and not telling abuse what went on is in fact the wurst thing u can do, some start thinking all is allowed nine.nobody has the right to be rude against players and defanatly against tds and congrats bbo that u react accordinly to be on our side and support us when we encounter that, use the tools provided from bbo and u live hapily ever after marc

hi, luke , try keeping a +-100 tables tourney free from chaeting, no way to do it on your own unless you are prepared to blacklist sevaral players that are innocent, 4 hours playing a day, same hosting, and another 36 hours a day looking in hands of allaged chaeting is what u suggest to try and do something about chaeting, wont work i m afriad, can work for abalucys(lesser hands to look at). secondly if /when someone is unethical is it really needed that every tourneydirector/interested party has to find out for himself that someone is unethical if he wishes to do something about the problem, i believe not , however i also find its unethical that tourneydirectors start to exchange"thier"chaeters, all it takes is a td that doesnt like a player to get him blacklisted in other tourneys, so im in favour of bbo to have a strong saying in this , take the right steps that u can take to try and be as fair as can be too the accused chaeters(so that nobody innocent will be punisched) and if found proven by team/panel capable of handling this why allow(unethical players) on bbo then anyfurther . This not stopping in the long run(at least trying too) will result several still ethical players to start doing the same cause its common and "allowed" to do so, aldough not all(humans) are like that, some defantly are. I havent done much about it before, when i got a call from someone saying xx/xy is unethical i mark them as friends so i see at all times where they are so i can try to see where/if they play unethical, as said before it takes to much of my time lately since i took this up, after our tourneys i ask willing tds now to check some pairs where i got complaints ffrom. but try and understand that this is done by volunteers making large efforts to try and do something about this, becuase for one reason only, we love this game with hart and soul and we`re not willing to let it be destroyed from a group that was inintially very small im sure . again the last thing i want is to keep on doing this on my own, this will result in mistakes (innoncent beeing punisched) and guitly walk away im sure so let as suggested a group of capleble volunteers handle this and let bbo do the sanctions marc -

ROFL Roll ON FloorLaughing -
the acutall finesse story went like this, gweny was the first i told off and here it goes, happend in a bridge too far player: td, i need adjust spwdo: what board player: this baord spwdo: u are playing it, still enough time to end it player: i need adjust now spwdo:why, someting is wrong? player: my finnesses dint work and east opend 2♥, he shoud have ♥king spwdo: why not on west? any particully reason player: percentages all in my favour says bridgebook spwdo: maybe an old book? i ended with a tournament add :♥♦ we td feel sorry if your finnesses dont go as planned but this i`m afraid cant be any reason to get an adjustment♦♥ marc

hi, u can bet on it that ill ask slothy to co-host with me in the future, i just like the mans profile, i wish i coud play it all:) and i hope we have some hilaric moments, he expressed the wish to become an expert poster lol, i told him ill add a replie on every topic he makes just saying ROFL , then i too become expert poster he he. i hope this doesnt go to far but once i send to tourney that final "resluts" woud be posted right after tourney, no need to tell you that it was somewhat embarrising too, thx to the cooperative td at the time i quickly changed that anouncement marc

hi, try subbing such a player when its hectic, no lol,0O0 can be seen, the capital l and l cannot be seen and takes to much time when your invitations arent answered, u only get a message, player lll isnt repaced with player xyz, same as they refused the invitation thx marc
-
hi uday, can u change that capital i doesnt look the the same then l , sometimes this takes a lot of time as several i know off have a lot of lll and IIII in there nicks, looks good here but i see no difference on bbo between those characters

hi, its a player resposibilty to inform and call a td right away what damage is done, ara told me today, he was still wondering what to do, too bad we cant see alerts, explanation in movies and only in the my hands thing, but as a rule when u get a call way to late its reason not to adjust, same when u get a call for baord played 3/4 baords ago and they want adjust for timeplay, just say no when that happens, cant check it, cant look in someones haed what they woud have lead, only thing we know is that they have probaly spit the movie out and come top you/us with the perfect plan, always imagine what u as player would do , u call right away when damage is done if u want an adjust, right? marc

hi, agree with procedure mc bruce is proposing and i would offer some time in helping in the panel if needed, with pleasure. As for the messenger disableling, simply cant do that for the outside bridgefriends that wanna talk with someone is online on bbo, second to that when we host in our tourneys, we make group conversation with all tds having messenger to have a general chat to save a lot of work(readress calls when u busy, agreeing where to go to check up late tables, when a player is not beeing granted an adjust all tds involved know, all these things very hard when u work with 5 tds to inform evry single td) so please let messenger be used for all and take action on the cheaters alone, i find no merit in punisching the fair for bad behavuior of the unfair marc -
hi aisha:) 1. main reason for his jumping around is that he probaly has in options, player to the bottom on south so every round change he is probaly in another seat , be firm after explaining him/her you are busy, and if it really gets annoying and u getting stressed to much, warn him/her(telling that several others need your attention too and that u will explain in time or tell him to ask me(when im not directing)/any yelow to help ,if this doesnt stop him from privating you then as a last resort push him off the mountain. be firm and show your limited patience before its reached 2. This one was really walking on a dangerous part of the mountain, some deadly incidents have occured in the past for this reason(when they do leave they simply cant enter several tourney s anymore) , one simply cant leave a "not so good" climber to climb on his own. for the record, u handle that one perfect 3. lol, a memer did ask me to change scoring from imp to mp and i agreed while barbara/blackbikin hosts imp and to provide schedule with different tourneys at the same time. no point for me to host something similar when another td is doing his thing. So i take full responsibilty for my mistake, sorry there. I like the "i want this one, and i want it mp `s " lol, a fan obvuiosly:). for the record well done aisha no dought in my mind that questions your td ability, you are very good td dear, me keeping asking you says a lot lol( i like to think that tds working in a bridge too far and the climb are the best i `ve hosted with, dont know all tds on bbo, im sure there are several other that are very capebel also) i ll take this replie to thank all tds working on a very regular basis and make "team spwdo" what it is (thx boris, ara, dave, gwen, patrick, aisha, sandor) thx also the occasionaly tds directing on our tourneys lately(beky, ecepal, gerardo, sondra, michael, barbara, japie, irem) i might forget someone, doing this from the top of my head

hi, we tournament directors have a mentorship for new tds , i dont know if u can add yourself to a list already to apply for mentoring, but if your englisch is ok private "spwdo" and we work something out http://bbototalpoints.bravepages.com/TD101/ this is some first intro to "directing tournaments" it will teach u basics needed to run-co-run a tournament, like how to handle the software, saves the mentor a lot of talk:)) marc
-
hi, for all directers outthere wanting to make tournament rules and upload them, as ben&jan-willem(inquiry, jw_nl) can confirm it took me some time to get it myself. i get a lot of questions each days of tds wanting me to explain this so i propossed to make this a general topic on one of the next tds meetings so we can do this in general and work on explaining that for all parties wanting to know, it was hard for me to undertstand it and even harder to explain without doing some work on it first, so i wish to help all with it but please not one at a time thx marc
-
hi , maybe she shoud not talk out loud ). if one shoud take advance of whats beein said in any way(when players can hear eachother ) i feel then that thatone crossed a line better not to be crossed so when in the same room do what is done irl online opps dont see/hear what others are doing so as long as u act with the same selfdiscpiline there is really no case why a pair woud not be welcome to play online marc

Artificial Openings - How to Direct?

hi, sorry abe for the cut:)) it was software not your tds who did it lol. mmmmm, cuts only happen after ending the second round, so if 2 baords a round u actually play at least four baords before the first cut appears, personnalyy i woud prefer 3 baords /round, i tryied it but to many third baords are skipped because 2 baords a round is most commen thing around and players forget in the"heat" there is a baord more and we get after a round then a lot of explaining to do on "why A==, opps played slow" hard to take action then and i like to see every board beeing played combined with the slowplay adjust we rarely have to make marc
-
hi, i know of several pairs who are a "pair" irl playing my events, feel free to play, very welcome:))
-
hi "and as soon the day comes that we can find a way that we dont have that much subs needed( i know for instance the private bridge club on msn gaming zone hardly ever needed a substitotion) not that many members in thier so on bbo you woud expand that number (for example if 10 tables needed one sub off course 100 tables will need 10 subs)" im the first to volunteering longer events if we tds coud cooperate and maybe drop some smaller events , simply if we/us coud get some help in hosting a marathon event weekly, same for indy/pairs with specail cc, for example , indy with precision as standard, i think enough tds have approval bye now, we only need to see us tds as partners and work togheter instead of trying to get max. tabless in "our" events, when i first started i helped everybody but unfortunaly i seen tomany onedays flies that i`ve helped and then went hsoting same tourneys opposite of some existing one. What is the gain of 3 survivor events with same standards (sayc based) hosted at the same time?but this is probaly not what the first post was intendend for, sorry marc
-
hi, i prefer playing imp( but i make effort to play in whatever tourneys my firnds hosts , tht makes me beeing online for +10 hours a day but i love this game and i support my friends in whatever way i can)but u right ben if u play a reduoble in first board and go down or opps make u probaly will be cut in imp, i think thats the main reason that most huge cuts events are MP and the smaller cuts events like "a bridge too far"(10%cuts only varuios imp or mp) , the climb of the matterhorn is mp and sadly i see that some cuts were needed (lot of drop outs, just overall much more subs needed), i dont know why. greetings marc
