  1. OK. I posted here because I didn't want people "not-knowing-what-they-are-talking-about" answering. I will post in an other forum next time. Thank you very much
  2. Hello, what is the most used system to describe the 5 card major hands after 1NT rebid from opener ? 1♣ - 1♠ 1NT - ? You have 5 cards in spades and a strong hand. I guess that in any system, weak hands are treated by 2♠ Is there any convention (2♣ or something) to find out if opener has 3 spades, or you just have to bid the other minor suit at the 3 level when you have a strong hand? Than you
  3. Hi, I have a software which can create .pbn files. I used to open them with the netbridgevu fromm BBO to have them saved as a .lin Up to now, I could use the .lin file with the BBO software NOT online. Now BBO is totally online. I create a directory, import hands from the .lin file and BBO says "20 hands has been imported". OK, but when I want to show them or deal them,I have the message : "Couldn't access database" (or something like that because the message is in French). If I create a hand with bbo and save it, then it's ok. Any idea ? Thank you
  4. Deep finess gives the tricks with the 52 cards known. For example, it won't make a finess with xx - AQx if the K is stiff behind.
  5. +1 to all what has been said.
  6. Hi Stephen, thanks for your answer. Actually, I have no membership with any american expert. I am a french bridge teacher and I give lessons to a couple of english beginners playing the american system. So I have to learn the difference between the french system and the american system. It's very difficult to find informations on the american system on internet. In particular with these auctions. I want to teach them the "most often played" system but it's hard to find out which one it is... Well, I guess I will teach them to play 1♠-2♣-2NT 12-14H or 18-19H and 1♠-2♣-3NT 15-17H
  7. Well, there is no answer to your question because : If you feared the split to be 5-3, the J and K showed the Q, so you should have taken the 2nd round. Assuming that you took the third round, then it could only be if you thaught the split to be 4-4 and then, you can play whatever you want in clubs.
  8. We are way too weak to... That's why I bid 2♦ first. If the opponents go to 4♠, anyway it's not a real problem to miss the hearts, because partner won't play at the 5 level without knowing I have a monster in shape. But if the auctions are back on me at 2♠ or 3♠, then I can double to show now 4 hearts. Partner knows now that I have 6 diamonds (otherwise, I would have doubled first instead of 2♦) and 4 hearts.
  9. Hi Hanoi, in the French system we have 3 ranges : 12-14, 15-17, 18-19. 2NT is for 15-17 and we have to repeat de suit when in 12-14. But in the SAYC, as far as I could see on many websites, they say : 2NT 13-16, 2NT 19-21, and quite nothing acceptable with a balanced hand about the 17-18. That's I wanted expert to tell me how they bid in that case. Anyway, I really think that 12-16 is way too large for 2NT. Should be 12-14. Well I am not an expert in the SAYC system, that's why I wanted expert to tell me how they bid.
  10. Hi, I am a good french player (playing French system) and want to learn a bit more about the SAYC. I've seen many things but I need some more explanations : opening 1♥, responder 2♣ What should be the opener rebid with a balanced hand ? So far, I read on internet : 13-16 (it was not sait but I guess they were talking about HCP) : 2NT (By the way, I guess it's 12 - 16 HCP) 19-21 22 : 3NT But with 17 - 18 : Jump raise or jump rebid of opener’s suit; Reverse in a new suit, i.e., bid a new suit at the two level which is higher ranking than the opening suit; Non-reverse bid in a new suit (this has the wide range of 13–18 points). Does it mean we should raise with only 5 cards ? For example , you have : ♠ AQ643 ♥ AK3 ♦ KJ3 ♣ 32 and the auctions are : 1♠ 2♣, what now ? Thank you
  11. I play the French system. I have learnt a bit about SAYC and a lot about French system, but in both cases, you never show a singleton at the 3 level after a weak-2. I have a very weak knowlwedge about the ACOL system, but I know how bridge works, and I found very strange to bid the singleton at the 3 level instead of a feature. Though, I just wanted to know if it was a common play in the ACOL system, or if her teacher is not that good...
  12. Hello, I don't materize ACOL at all so I have 2 questions for Experts  1° ) someone told me that her teacher wanted her to play (only 2 players bidding, 1NT 12-14): 1NT - 2♣ when she has 5-4 in majors and a weak hand 1NT - 2♥ - 2♠ - 3♥ when she has 5-4 in majors and a strong hand (12HCP+) I thaught you should have to bid 2♣ in both case and just bid your 5 cards major at the 3 level if opener's bid is 2♦, when you have a strong hand. Can you tell me if her teacher wants her to play a "special" way or if it is a common one ? 2°) Another thing even more strange : after a weak two opening (2♥ or 2♠), 2NT is an asking bid to shortage, and he wants her to bid her singleton at the 3 level (not a feature at the 3 level, and singleton at the 4 level). Again, is it a special way to play or just common ? Thank you
  13. Does it really mean that if you open 1♥ and your partner bids 1♠, you can't play 1NT ? In my example, 1NT is probably not the correct contrat as you can ruff 2, maybe 3 spades playing 2♥ (well, ok it also means they have 2♠ or 3♠ as a winning contract) But, ok. Thank you very much.
  14. Hello, something is bugging me in the acol system : It is said to prefer 1H opening instead of 1NT with a balanced hand (I agree with that). But it is said that 1NT rebid is 15-17HCP. So, what is the rebid when auctions are (only 2 players bidding) 1H - 1S - ? when you have a balanced hand and 12-14HCP, as you can't rebid 1NT , can't repeat your 5 cards suit. So it seems that you can never play 1NT. Maybe you have to open with 1NT when balanced and 12-14H but , what should do your partner if he has ♠1,♥3,♦4, ♣5 for example and 5-6HCP? Thank you very much.
