  1. Ehm..... Look at the hand posted please. I do not see any shortness, lenth or other stuff that are not already shown. I know about systems that does not allow you to play 2nt - but if yo take your time to read OP, you will see this that in this system you can. And imho yes! - I do believe "a range ask" to be usefull in this bidding. I am really not trying to maralize anything or anybody - just trying to make it clear that bidding 2NT here - tells your partner exactly what your holdings are.
  2. Why ??? After having made the Jacoby 2h bid, and then the 2NT bid, your partner already know you have 5 spades and 9~ish points. Let him be the captain now.
  3. MP is NOT about gambling on game! Let the poor people bid 3Nt here - and bid 2NT if you want to play healthy - telling your partner exactly what you have, and let him decide. It is called bridge :-) Yes sometimes you will stand in 2NT winning 9 tricks - so be it.... Decisions, not results!! Read this post if you want more info: http://bridgetime.org/decisions-not-results/
  4. I think you did fine! You have othing more than promised with a 2nt bid - and you rp can easily decide whats best from here. Not even in IMP would I have bid different - so well done. http://bridgetime.org/
  5. Hi there #14 Pretty hard... I really like that you do not open 2c with theese kind of hands though! Now it comes down to your system agreements. What does 3N actually tell you ? In my book it's kind of a chance bid, since if partner had some strength he would prolly bid slower (The principial of slow arrival). If he indeed doesnt have much strength he might have a long dia suit - but you have to give more info about your system. I think I would bid 4h to play in a major. If your partner tells you something like 14-16HP with this bid - I suggest you agree to mid slower when holding a lot of points :-) #22 Here I would have opened 2c You have a 4 looser hand. As the biddings are now - I would bid 5sp - this will show some better hand, since you could have passed and bid 5sp when opp's had chosen their minor. Regards Jacob http://bridgetime.org/
  6. Id say 5♣instead of 4 spades on west. Im pretty sure we have a slam when p opens and have monster like this - and i wanna hear more now. We will prolly end up in 6♦ which isnt that good tbh - but better than 4sp
  7. I agree with the above. For the same reasons :-) Responders 2nd bid is often where things go wrong. http://bridgetime.org/
  8. Hmmmm. In my honest oppinion the most important thing about your defence on 1NT - is that you have one. Im pretty sure all conventions have their benefits and visa versa. So which one to choose ? I think you have to decide if you want to play it "safe" like multi or others - where you have no doubt of length etc. Or you can actually use a convention like DONT - which is little more uncertain, but it lets you bid it more often (making your opp's frustrated more often) I do not have the golden truth here - but I can tell you that I have played both capp, Landy, Multi, DONT during the years - and since I like being agressive I still like DONT :-) http://bridgetime.org/
  9. Another suggestion is to play D.O.N.T defence. In which case X will show an unknown long suit, asking for 2c from partner. You can read about it here: http://home.comcast.net/~kwbridge/dont.htm
  10. No matter if X is takeout or penalty I would pass. budov prolly has a pretty good hand no matter what, and you don't want to bid any higher. If opp's continue the bidding you now have a some great leads to choose from - and if partner gets to play 2dX, well, maybe it will win - but if it does not maybe you will still get a good result. Pass! www.bridgetime.org
  11. Can you perhaps explain a little m8 ? As I posted earlier, north's 3d should be destructive (atleast if you play usp, unnasuming cue or something like that) - and south's 3h bid is in my way to hard. If south think his hand is worth sooo much, why not x and bid dia after ?(would also be wrong though) Im sure north could something else if he wanted to invite for game after the dia bid - and very wise he did'nt :-)
  12. I don't mind N bidding 3d - seems reasonable to make it even harder for opp's. N would prolly not X 2h - but may consider X 3h. South bidding 3h is even in IMP a little to hard. You might consider starting to play something like USP in the future. That way you wont be considering anything but pass from south :-) www.bridgetime.org
  13. Well i actually don't agree. Your argument wanting to play system on, would also fit if you were to play system off. Playing a (11)12-14 1NT you will see that your opp's will interfeer a bit looser than you are used to. You will also see a lot of modified defence systems on 1NT when playing 12-14 instead of 15-17. So a lot of players will X instead of bidding. That means that converting to 12-14NT your escape system are the most important. You have several to choose from, but Nilsland is great imo. So to the actual question. I think system should be off when opp's interfeering. X should be penalty no matter what they bid (due to looser bids from opps as described above) Overcalling opp's bid should be kind of stayman (Atleast when opps bid a minor) Partners bid also on 2 level should be "I want to play here" - if you have a hand that wants to play game on top of the 1nt opening you have to jump to 3 level. Lebensohl is btw a must! Well this post was written really fast from my work, so prolly some spelling errors. And if you you want more info I can deepen it later. www.bridgetime.org
  14. Well. Im not to say if your partner has made a poor bid when I have not seen the hands. But one thing is for sure. Weak 2's are not bad, its a very fine way to describe your hand, and making it harder for your opp's to bid. But when to use a weak 2 opening are sometimes abused. Instead of just opening with a weak 2 when you hold something like 6-10 hp and a 6 card suit - you should really try to count loosers and winners instead. Doing this, and opening after a 1-2-3 or a 2-3-4 rule makes it much easier for both you and your partner to be precise in the biddings. You will see that a 6 card suit sometimes are better passed, and sometimes are better opening on the 3 level. Still conventions like Ogüst are great in combination like gwnn says. Just my 2 cents :-) www.bridgetime.org
  15. Well - its complicated imo. My experience is that playing at a casual online bridge table it is actually okay to ask this kind of questions the first time the problem arrives. If I were to play for fun against unknown opp's I would not mind if they got theese issues cleared. Ofcourse it is a different matter if I were playing a tournament. www.bridgetime.org
