  1. I believe this is just a straight forward transfer. 2d is a transfer to hearts at the two level. 4d is a transfer to hearts at the 4 level. The 4d bid is known as a "Texas" transfer. It ensures you get to game and it interferes with the opponents bidding any information. I'm not sure, it's been awhile since I've played ACBL, but normally transfers used to be alertable by the partner who bid the NT. Hope this helps
  2. I have read most replies, and understand their position. I believe that I would not count the Jack of spades, and therefore open a club. Maybe I'd open 1 NT if I were not vulnerable, definitely would not open 1NT if I was vulnerable. There are enough options to describe your hand with subsequent bids. I tend to lower normal pt values if that honor doesn't stand on it's own. i.e.Q doubleton, I might give 1 pt, j xx, no count until I know my partner has that suit covered.
  3. I like the format. I would wish that there was a break i.e. 15seconds between games. Lets you review a little.
  4. I'm sorry, if I'm the only one who feels this way. 6nt is a signoff, or should be. The only partner who should be setting the final contract is the one who was asking for controls. i.e. Aces and the K of trumps. I believe that the bot should never pull 6nt to 7. So there. LOL Thanks for the great discussions.
  5. I agree, but some of the point ranges preclude you bidding slam at all. Many of the "lower" bids are sign offs. I think the point ranges should be significantly lowered, since the point ranges primarily only work for no trump, distribution is the key to many of the slams. Thanks for your point, it's well taken.
  6. There is way too many times, when I ask "bot" for controls, and then try to set the contract at the highest possible contract. (That's the whole idea behind bidding right?) Almost every time that I've gone through control asking, the bot will not allow you to bid any other suit, and if you bid 6nt, they will bid 7. I still believe even to this day, that the only one who can set the contract is the one asking for controls. Since the "control asking partner" has not told the partner necessarily what their hand contains. It's just like the partner who opens a no trump should not be the contract setter, only the other partner knows exactly how mnay points are between them. I would propose that the program for bots take (remove) any programming that asks bot to bid 7 of it's suit, if partner bids 6nt. Comments?
  7. Actually, I wondered why GIB North didn't double, and then correct to spades, He has 13 high card points and a void (18pts?) No biggie, I just believe in "the captain of the ship" rule. Once you've limited your hand, the partner should be the only one to set final contract. Take care, appreciate your reviews
  8. I try to read the explanations, but there are just too many "exceptions" to what was listed and what was bid. So I just use them for guidelines. I still believe as strongly as I can, that the bidder who asks for controls, is absolutely the one who sets the contract. Sorry, can't convince me otherwise, LOL
  9. Way too many times, after asking for keycards, I bid slam in something other than Robots suit, robot pulls it. Even worse, way too many times, after going through asking for keycard, I bid 6nt (top board, right?) and every single time, Robot pulls it to 7 of his suit. My arguement, is the partner who does the Ace asking, should be the Captain of the ship and be the one who determines where the contract should be, since he's the only one who knows how many key cards (and or where the key cards are!). I think that Robots are programmed to not allow a change from their suit, once keycard asking has taken place. The most recent example, robot on my left bid 2h, pass, pass, double by me. (I have AKQxxxxx of clubs, Axx of d, x hearts, x of spades.) left robot passes, my pard robot bid 3 spades, pass, 4nt by me, pass by robot, 5h (2 key cards in spades) So I take a flyer and bid 6 clubs, immediately 6 spades by pard, I bid 6nt, 7 spades by robot. Down 2. My pard has AK 6 spades, kxxx 4hts singleton club and kx of diamonds. In clubs, and nt 6 is cold, in spades we lose the heart and two spades. So this is pretty frustrating. comments?
