  1. Yes, but no lead, so I imagine trumplead ? GBB ;)
  2. Pass, NV and pd didn't make any try over my transfer. He is just competing with a 4 card suit. GBB ;)
  3. Only ? That is providing the ♣ break, the ♦ K is onside and the ♥ behave. Pretty specific. And if you double and after pd's bid you bid 2NT, doesn't that show this hand ? GBB ;)
  4. Sounds like the problem is that either you don't trust your pd or you think you know it better. Either one not so good, he asked for ♣ back, why not play it ? I don't get it. Your pd must have lots of patience ;) GBB :D
  5. I think you are asking what responses you like to 2 NT, after pd opens 1M. 3♣ any minimum hand 3♦ extra's with no singleton or void 3♥ singleton♣ with extra's 3♠ singleton ♦ with extra's 3NT singleton in other major with extra's 4♣ ♣void with extra's 4♦ ♦void with extra's 4♥ void in other major with extra's After 3 ♣ responder can ask with 3♦ asks for shortness somewhere and tends to deny any shortness in own hand. 3♥ shows ♣ shortness. 3♠ shows ♦ shortness. 3NT shows other major suit shortness. 4♣ denies shortness and is cuebid. 4♦ denies shortness and is cuebid. 4♥ denies shortness and is cuebid ( when ♠ was opening suit ) Or after 3♣ responder can show 3♥ shows ♣ shortness and some interest. 3♠ shows ♦ shortness and some interest. 3NT shows shortness in other major and some interest. GBB :P
  6. As long as it is singleton K. :) GBB :P
  7. 3♠, now my pd knows I have 3-1-5-4 hand. And he can make decision from here on. 4♠ might even play better in 4-3 fit then 5♦ would. GBB :P
  8. You could be down. Pd should have bid 5♦. But anywhich way, you know the ♦J lead is singleton. Play the ♣ Q at trick 2, not many West will play the K now. GBB :P
  9. Right ! You don't need to know the exact # as long as you know how too. And as I said in other post the % chances also with the bidding and handpattern of the opps. I wish I was smart enough to figure out all the exact # directly, or even remember them, but it takes me a while to figure them out. And I like to play with the # and see how things chance depending on different situations and even small cards. Keeps me busy on them long cross-country flights :) GBB :P
  10. If you obviously know for a fact that they are 4-1 yes. With a 3-2 you don't have too, but if not sure and the bidding is indicating that it is more then likely 4-1 but might be 3-2 you still have 75% to get it right with the double finesse. GBB :P
  11. You sure ? Sounded like you are playing ♣10 in this holding. [hv=v=b&n=shq9dct&e=sxhjxdc]266|200|Scoring: MP Doesn't really matter what 3rd card East has, so i put it as a S[/hv] GBB :P
  12. I blame the 3 NT bid, it takes a lot of room away here. And it isn't even a 3 NT bid. GBB :P
  13. Double take 800, but if replying 2♣ directly instead of 1♥ will get you 1370. Pd had ♠xx ♥KJx ♦QTxx ♣AQ9x GBB :P
  14. 4♦ not so good, just bid 4♠ or even 4 NT. You want to know what pd has in ♣ and if he has good values in ♥. GBB :P
  15. I agree with Justin, except I hope West isn't one of them brilliant Worldchampions, that ducked with ♣Kxxx. GBB :P
  16. Let's say just for fun that you think East might have 2♥, and find out how the % chances. Now there is a 25 % chance that either the J or the 10 is with East. 1 Card can make a big difference. But the % play is still to double finesse. GBB :P
  17. % For stiff Jack or Ten by East is 5.6522, so that isn't very big chance. % For JT to be in West hand is 22.04351. I didn't count if West had all the ♥. But in case you wanted to know, it is an extra 1.9565%. GBB :P These percentages seem completely useless, as they ignore the auction. It is very simple really: If LHO has 4 hearts, than he has JT in 3 cases (RHO small singleton), and RHO has J or T in 2 cases. If LHO has 5 hearts, well he has JT. So even ignoring the case that LHO has 5 hearts, it is 60% that he has JT. Arend It is a little more complicated then that actually. With the bidding in mind, and knowing that East has maximum of 1♥, at least according to Free, the % is 85.715 that the JT is with West. There is a 7.143% chance that West has either the J or T stiff. GBB :)
  18. I don't have to ruff it directly, just showing off. ;) GBB
  19. 3♣, because if I double pd might think I actually have a hand and maybe pass. Now he knows I can be light and makes his bid according to that. GBB
  20. 6-5 Come alive. I will bid 5♥. I have nice offensive hand, defense I have maybe 1 trick. My pd's tend to raise me to slam when they have nice hand and ♥ fit and no wasted ♦ values. ♠AKTxx ♥KTxx ♦xx ♣Ax would be a nice minimum hand. GBB
  21. Everybody that wants to be serious about bridge should use the basic bridge % plays. That's why people went through all the trouble to write them down. If you don't know the basics, you just wasting time. There are rules and guidelines in bridge that will help you play better. Use them. I agree, sometimes, because of bidding or other hints a % doesn't work. But you have to start somewhere, and if it is asking questions here or on a club or buying a book, you learn from it. "Deep Finesse" is a great program but it will play anti-percentage, because it plays double-dummy. So for instance if you have AQJ10 opposite 2345, you have exactly 50 % chance of getting 4 tricks, either the finesse works or not. If you are in a contract needing no losers in that suit combo, and K is stiff behind it, "Deep Finesse" will play the Ace, which is 2.8316% chance. :) Even playing the % isn't always winning, unless it is a 100%. Sometimes it just doesn't work, and that's when you know that about everybody else in the field played pretty much the same, especially at the high(est) level. GBB
  22. Just for thrills, the ♠ suit you can play for 3 tricks over 66% of the times. Start with the J and if covered you win and play small to the 7. If other hand wins you play the Ace and if 10 didn't drop you play the Q. As for the play of the hand, the minor suits don't really matter too much. The ♣ suit is either onside or he is endplayed, the !d suit you are not bringing in unless ♦109 2nd or 3rd in one hand, still over 10% for that. So I will win in the hand, and play low ♦ to the Q. If he wins he can cash 1 big ♥ and he is pretty much endplayed from that point on. So let's say other hand wins, and plays a ♣ back. You win the Ace and play the ♠ J, he covers and you win. Now you play ♦AK , just to see if the 9 10 are dropping. Of course they don't. Now you take the ♣ finesse, just for show, since you don't really have to finesse. And again he is endplayed. The whole hand revolves around the ♠ 10. GBB
  23. Doesn't sound like you are on your way to making a lot of friends here :) GBB
  24. Ok, so everybody bids 2♣ to begin with. But now your are stuck in this sequence and pd bids 4♥ and RHO bids 4♠. What do you do now ? GBB
