  1. IF you are saying the old USSR should get 2 chess teams, I assume they play and win only as a team, then Yes they should get two teams. If you are saying Europe or South America should get more teams than north america in soccer....YES. Mike, I not only understand what you are saying, I completely agree! Let's have a party. BTW, I think the Russia does get to send more than one player to the world championships. Ever heard about Kasparov and Karpov drinbrasil? Another great comparison is the olympics. There are many events where there are many Americans competing for the gold medal but fewer of even no Dutch. That doesn't seem wrong to me, the Americans who don't qualify for those events are probably still far better than the Dutch. I said olimpics in chess because is per country (teams). Chess WC is individual...and i bet i know more chess than you :D Indivual sports dont say wich COUNTRY is the best. Just the best person. Etiope wins 10000m, usa wins 400m and so on, each category has one winner, and you can say there is ONE country better in medals at atletics. Not realistic think about individual torneys. When is 100mx4 you see more than one USA team running? USA is the best in fast guys...should has 3 teams... Only to me when countries involved, i never saw any sport where there are more than one REGULAR team per country, only bridge. Btw in chess if odd number of teams local team can put one more team (when i was player hosts has advantage to put already 2 for start), but in this case also the country has advantage. What i think about bridge is that is because that is and noone says nothing because noone cares and seems natural the best country have 2 teams. Is like basketball soon sending 2 usa teams to WC Basket, soccer Brasil sending 2 teams to WC. Will be very good, if one team play bad other can win. But if all community of bridge like this and thinks is fair, ok, i am alone in this view, no problems:-) Just interesting so diferent aproach for WORLD TITLE, diferent from big majority of all sports and have only one person thinking like me
  2. IF you are saying the old USSR should get 2 chess teams, I assume they play and win only as a team, then Yes they should get two teams. If you are saying Europe or South America should get more teams than north america in soccer....YES. No, you didnt understand what i said.
  3. Do you think make perfect sense if Brasil send 2 teams to WC soccer or Russia send 2 teams to Olympiads of chess? hehe what i want know is if you think is fair one COUNTRY, dispute WORLD title with 2 teams in 22. At end i see people talking about how many times USA won titles, the country. Or the country is irrelevant in this torney and important is good bridge? (note: i agree USA can have many teams in better teams in world, this is never questionable from me). My main question is about the dispute between countries. I saw one reply here saying BB is dispute between zones  i didnt know this...then zone "A" has x titles, zone "B" y titles and so on...? we should count this way?
  4. As i received one ask at BBO, not clear in my first post, my position is i think is NOT fair 2 teams from same country in one World dispute.
  5. Hi all, (valid for BB,SB and VC) 2 questions: 1) If is about number of players, I am thinking, when China number of players in bridge start to grow as big as USA, they will have rights to China1 and China2 as well? 2) I dont remember any other sport where one country can have 2 teams to dispute one WORLD title. If you are playing for your country, cannot you deliberary loss one match at some point to put one team who was in bad run awake to win other team who was disputing with our other country team? Or to play better and make other team go down and not qualify with better carry over? All in all, Is fair have then 2 teams from same country to dispute wich country is better? offtopic: when my sister who doesnt play bridge saw photo "we dont vote bush" and she saw 2 usa teams, she asked me "the other usa is the bush team?" LOL
  6. change my Kd for Ks and i bid easy. In this one i bid crying if not agreed need have Hxx at least to bid over 1nt.
  7. little money isnt interesting :)
  8. For H2H you should use all last lets say X* year(s) results between teams plus some weight for RR 16boards result this year. Of course perfect would be board a board all time, but general results can be used. *This isnt fixed number, in really you should use many in past datas to make model who fit more for bridge. Of course i am only saying about ideal models, i cant use my time to do this actually, but if you have time to take previous meetings between all teams in past events, you much probabily will get better estimations. Maybe someone has this work partial done around, like data from 2003-2005 and used for 2006 torneys.
  9. Since xx = 10+, looks that 3♣ would be 11-12 and 4♣ 13+, forcing game.
  10. Construtive comment. I think this model can be improved. Like we do in models to make odds in soccer, we use some other aspects who in bridge i imagine could be at least the recent h2h (very better information, because in soccer we have many player changes in teams). So you need use weight for actual form (here you used just the RR) and weight for H2H. I imagine h2h is important because we know in bridge our game fit more or less against one or other opponent due to systems or styles for example.
  11. Without knowing methods for opening is hard to tell, but normally pairs dont have 2weak bid in ♣, so is the more logic lead, i play Q♣ :P but if 2nt is 20-21 and no conventions, looks really absurd bid...
  12. Lauria doubled this hand :D and played 1NT X -2 at end 1S p p X xx p p 1NT X p p p
  13. [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sajt9xhkqtdaq76c2]133|100|Scoring: IMP 1♠-P-P-?[/hv] What's your plan? If has some? :D ps: this hand is from BB today.
  14. I pass. Partner have at max limited balanced hand (and i will not go further anybid) or unbalanced not strong suficient to open 2C...so in bad days i miss something, in normal days i avoid disasters...my hand is very bad... Other question: If partner open 2♣ you would bid negative (<6) or positive?
  15. IMPS Playing NT (16 to 18), you have this hand: ♠Kxxx ♥Kx ♦A10xx ♣AQx and bidding goes (maybe not perfect in your system): 1NT - 2♦ 2♥ - 3♦ 4♦ - 4NT* 5♥** - 5NT *** ? *RKC ♦ ** 2A without Q♦ ***(guarantee all rkc + Q♦, is invite to 7, but you have option to show K♣ with 6♣ bid do you bid 6♣,6♦,7♦ or other? why?
  16. Just now saw the 9 missed also, but you win all cases Qxx 27% plus some Q9 and some Q7, add 1-2% for this, so 29% more 50% from 71% remaining, 35,5% you win with finesse, so chances of 7 around 62-63% is still good bet...
  17. To make the math of chances when playing (i cant rate more squeeze chances in play from start) i think is something like this (i am not sure, you can correct me): Chance for Q♥ 3rd or 2nd = 35%, from 65% no sucess you have the ♠finesse, so you have 35%+32,5%=67,5% So now you have to think against opps. All will bid 6 or 7. So need calculate your chance to be good against 6. Not VUL You bid and win 7♦ in 67,5% of cases, winning 11imps You bid and go down 1 in 32,5% of cases losing 14 imps your expectative in this 7 is positive imps so 7 is ok.
  18. I double. One of points is I have 7 tricks to play NT if partner bid 1NT i raise to 3. But mainly is to let partner compete with spades not under total press. I imagine what can be the diferences in (maybe you can help me thinking about): a) 1H-2C-3H-P P - X - P - ? (KQxx xxx xxx xxx) (xxxx Axx Kxxx xx) and b ): 1H-X-3H-? (KQxx xxx xxx xxx) (xxxx Axx Kxxx xx)
  19. I agree bidding after 3H is possible, just is very rare. But i figured chances of sucesses depend on 2nd fit (you always has to be at least 5-4 to bid over 3H) and depends normally on trumphs not break 4-1. I just wanted test the expected imps for this auction :P anyone has any site to random hands and analise?
  20. To be sincere, this sequence (1nt-2d;2h-2nt;3h-4h) is very very very unusual, i really cant remember good players doing this. But from what posters says are hands in wich you need double fit with partner and almsot all cant handle with 4-1 trumphs, so you is a bad shot. You must have some fit for your lateral suit or will not win the game. Can be bid? of course, its your right. When you invite partner and hi has 3 cards and he says NO, i want play only 3H, he probabily has his own reasons. If i bid 4 and go down my partner will not like...
  21. x KJxxx xx QTxxx or similar. Partner's third trump increases the chances for setting up and reaching the side suit a lot. How many times you did and saw this bidding with sucess/no sucess? So with KJxxx Q10xxx xx x you big game always, right? You never invite. Knowing partner minimum, whats expected number of games made you can estimate here?
  22. looks very nice on paper, all who like bid 4H over 3H can please show some hands where you did it? (remember, hands you have invitional values and 5 hearts, with 6+ the invite is in 3H). We can make then some random tests and see how effective this bids are... I play bridge few time (7 years), but at good level (2-3 years), and i never saw one good player bid 4H over 3H in this auction (my club has 6 world champions and i play often against...), but i am open mind and want learn from posters.
  23. you play wich range NT? I think this is first question. If 15-17, you have 16 without aces, a minus, so hand more to minimum, you can bid 3H (of course NF, just correcting). Even partner with 2 aces you can go down fast. IN a good day 4h is clear making, but i need have confidence my partner judges he has invite hand only. (so with 2 aces he has 5-3-3-2 or something bad like this).
  24. i am new to laws, where is this part?
  25. with 1444 small singleton 18-19, I Open 1♦ always. If 1♠ come from partner, i rebid 2♥ and NT in next bid probabily. Partner have to have in mind i can have 1444 and not suport diamonds yet with 3 cards. from 20+ i open 2♦ (multi) and is all easy, but if playing natural system need choice again between 1♦ and for bigger hands 2♣ (followed by your convetnion in 1444 hands - i like 2♣-2♦; 4♥ = 1444, 4♠=4144;4♣=4414;4♦=4441;
