  1. [hv=d=s&v=e&s=s8hj542dq742ck832]133|100|Scoring: IMP You start with a pass, LHO Opens 1 Spade, Pard bid Michaels, RHO bids 4D which shows a first or second round control[/hv] What is your call? Opps are capable players, but nothing extraordinary.
  2. Is it possible that partner could have something like xxx QJT987 xxx x ? And if not, why not? And what should partner do with that kind of hand?
  3. With a new partner, and no agreement, I might take a look at my hand. With a singleton Heart, then perhaps the pen x of H looks more likely :D
  4. I reckon I can possibly get you sponsorship for future events. Do you have any sort of figures available that I could sell to the company? Number of unique hits, no. of vugraph watchers etc. D
  5. What about if the actual tournament had a sponsor? This might make things much easier. e.g. the Generali Invidual Championships is coming up soon. This would make a perfect vugraph broadcast. Same simple system played everywhere, so commentators do not have to endlessly search for and explain the system. Great players (including Omar Sharif) etc...... If you could get hold of the Generali sponsorship co-ordinator for this, and pointed out that you could advertise Generali on the back of cards etc. it may well be possible to get a couple of extra though from them.
  6. Hey. A few messages have not been translated. i.e. "Automated message: This is a vugraph broadcast and you are not allowed to chat" Is this deliberate? Do you want me to explore the whole of BBO for phrases that need translating? D
  7. Hey. I find it really annoying when a live vugraph is in progress, and I want to join the table that my friends watch, or that Fred or Junior is commentating at. I move my cursor over their name, and all that is says is "Fred is watching a live vugraph broadcast" And I have no idea which room he is in! Therefore I either have to i) annoy Fred and distract him´by asking him where he is or ii) Arduously enter and exit all the rooms. It seems much more sensible to say "Fred is watching the England v France (open) live vugraph broadcast"
  8. Hi Marc, I played in many of your tournaments and they were always fun, fair and well run. Thanks for donating your time to the cause of BBO and bridge. Hopefully you will be back before too long. D

  10. Hi, I would be interested in your opinion on potential tourneys. One of these is as follows. A monthly individual tournament, 16 boards, no kibitzers allowed (to cut down on cheating). The top 3 players receive special "player of the month" stars (gold, silver and bronze) so that they get great prestige, and the respect of all of BBO's top players. The winner also gets to play one hour online with Fred - a prize worth winning! How much would this be worth to you?

  13. [hv=d=n&v=e&s=saqha97dkjt832cj8]133|100|Scoring: IMP Third in hand, white v red.[/hv] What do you open, and why? Is one bid particularly obvious?
  14. Hi, I think it would be great if an option existed to swap rooms half way through a team match. A teammatch where you only play one opp pairs somehow just feels "wrong" + I like to play against as many people as possible.
  15. Hi, I have been away for the past month or so, and just logged on. I was confronted by countless mail messages from clubs I belong to, mostly advertising tournaments that occurred a long time ago. So I was frantically clicking through them in order to be able to actually use BBO when I accidentally deleted a message from Uday, and it was gone, vanished, with no way to retrieve it (even for a yellow). Therefore, I suggest the following i) Clubs should have the possibility to "date" their messages. Maybe their should be an option along the lines of "advertise tournament", whereby the user is automatically informed of how long it will be before the tourney starts, but if it has already started he should not receive the mail. ii) Mail messages that are received should appear in the chat box after "OK" has been clicked. D
  16. Lets just say that it is hard to think of a more reliable source :)
  17. Hi all, it is with great regret that I pass on rumors from a reliable source that DOTW is to take an extended break as of this Monday. For almost 8 years Fred has produced an article, usually of outstanding quality, on one or more fascinating deals. Having programmed .lin files myself I can say that this is no easy task, not to mention the world class analysis and lucidity that Fred invariably injected to his articles. All this, and it was 100% free! Bear in mind that the average bridge book has maybe 50 deals in it, and you will see that Fred could have used his talents to much more profitable ends. A big thank you to Fred, and here's hoping that DOTW comes back sooner rather than later, Dean
  18. It annoys me that when a friend logs on it counts as a "private chat message". I like being informed when a chum logs on, but sometimes I leave BBO whilst working so that I can deal with any enquiries/chat. When I hear a noise I'll look up or change to BBO only to see that a friend has logged in so either i) Friend logging on should be a separate option in the sound menu and/or ii) It should make a different noise D
  19. Hi. Firstly I think that i) Friends ii) Star Players iii) Maybe enemies Should be highlighted For example in the tournament below there were 146 pairs, and we wished to see how we compared to star players and friends. http://69.56.183.98:81/tourneyresults/Tue_...33;__~1~749.lin Secondly, the highlighting system is slighty asked for usernames with a space as a character e.g. Justin C-Deanrover6 - the C-Deanrover6 was all highlighted. D
  20. Hi, one very annoying feature of BBO. If you are at a table and want to look at the list of other tables you have to scroll down one table at a table, which can be a very laborious procress when there over 300 tables! D
  21. Y, i understand, but what lay out does mine fail on that others make on and vice versa. Also - It looks like West has 2 diamonds from the opening lead. He has 2 clubs and you assume he had <4 spades, assume 3. This means he has all 6 hearts! And there was no lightner double so this can not be! The only reasonable way that your layout can exist would be if West had lead from a three card suit and had exactly 3-5-3-2 distribution.
  22. OK. This is how I played it. I won in hand, drew four rounds of trump, cashed Two spades ending in dummy. Cashed the Diamond Ace, ruffed a spade, and then played for the double squeeze, successfuly. I figured that East rates to have the diamonds (from the lead), and as long as West has the spades (likely given he is also short in clubs), then this makes regardless of the heart layout. What do you think?
  23. [hv=n=skxxxhajxxxxdatxc&s=saxhxdkxxcakqtxxx]133|200|DI9 lead in 7CL contract.[/hv]
  24. qx allows the program to create a multiple deal .lin file sv|x| sets vulnerability - means neither, b means both, n means NS only, e EW only md|xyzetc.| stand for "make deal" pg|| is a page break when viewing the .lin file
