  1. What makes you think I haven't been emailed by BBO? I have and the response was cagey. Fully supporting my original post. If things are not changing, then why not just announce that?
  2. You are not wrong and BBO is being very coy about August 1 changes. I suspect we are about to lose TD rights in order to appease NBOs.
  3. In the immediate aftermath of a tournament, the TD sees the results. a) Is there any way of downloading them and the travellers? b) Returning to them a day or so later for reviewing?
  4. If I do that and they sit online on BBO but not registered do I just sit them at the vacant seats ?
  5. I had to convince my club that only players from within their ranks would be in a private tournament. When I tried this 3/4 years back, they were nervous of 'outsiders' (don't ask me why, I play with anyone ;) ). This time round circumstances are different, so hopefully thir attude will be. Our chairman exhibits a degree of snootiness towards BBO.
  6. OK, not what I wanted to hear. So is it possible to remove the odd pair, with aplogies to them?
  7. Iam fortunate enough to have retained TD status from a few years back and am abut to run a private pairs tournament for my clubs. Is it possible in the event of an odd number of pairs to run with a moving sit out throughout the tourney?
  8. I agree with a lot of what you say.....but these BBO matches are generally over 8 boards. Would it really disconcert a non-Acol player to accommodate an acolyte p for just 8 boards? I've seen plenty of experienced SAYC partnerships do badly where one player is poor. What's the difference with some slight misunderstanding by an Acol player trying his best to get to grips with SAYc or 2/1?
  9. I admit to a huge degree of annoyance when applying for a seat on a two-tweams-match on BBO. It appears that hosts routinely refuse players with an Acol profile and so-called Advanced and Expert players can be hugely aggressive and rude when one finally does get to play. For my part, I ALWAYS agree my partner's card even when I have limited knowledge of their system believing it will add to my understanding. This is rarely reciprocated. Why are SAYC players so insular?
  10. So every 7 days, I have to rent robots I don't use and don't want?. I don't understand why you don't recognise that amongst your users there are many of us who would be prepared to make a one-off payment for the app to be free of advertising. Many other apps do this. Why can't BBO? In this instance, you are being perverse not I.
  11. But generally I don't want to rent robots to be rid of ads. I'd be quite happy to pay for the app though to do the same. If you are saying you, BBO that is, can't do this or more likely won't do this, then I find that very sad and think you contemptuous of your users.
  12. The adverts are back. And damned annoying they are too. The banners take up too much screen space when playing on the app on an iPad Mini. Even worse on a smart phone. The animations are also extremely distracting. Please, please give users the option of paying for an ad-free version of the app
  13. Similar problem also iPad. chat on table works for a while, then keyboard refuse s to appear. Only iPad reboot solves this. Definitely a bug and not a feature!
  14. No, it is not fine at a club in any duplicate competition. I recently witnessed one player secretly looking at a bidding crib sheet during the auction. Penalties were awarded against her. Across the table discussion is no different, it is a form of cheating.
  15. I wonder if other BBO regulars are becoming ever more irritated like me at ops who ask their partners to describe their bid whilst in the middle of the auction? I play in the Acol room and am regularly confronted by ops who ask their partners things such as, is that a transfer p? Blackwoods, p? RKC ? and many others. It ought to be obligatory to read your partner's profile and agree it before starting to play. Such questions are against the laws and would certainly not be allowed at your local club. At the same time, it is surely good manners for the second player to come to the table with a new partner to either accept their partner's card without demur or debate it and agree it, before starting play.
  16. Adverts? An appalling addition. How do I downgrade to previous version?
  17. I don't deliberately' play SAYC. Expressed myself poorly but try to take a quick peek at partner's profiles and avoid the obvious ACOL things like weak NT. Still doesn't alter the fact that the standard can be very poor. And with continuous misunderstandings, one's owen play goes down as well. As I wrote to begin with, not sure they are worth playing at all.
  18. My only reason for playing in these at all, is that there are so few ACOL players around in the morning on Europe time. Have plenty of regulars to play against and partner in the afternoons and evenings. But, as I'm retired I occasionally would like some practice in the mornings and these appear to be only place to go. It's a shame really.
  19. I play in quite a few Express Automated tourneys. And as an ACOL player I try to adapt to playing mostly SAYC to fit in. I'm beginning to wonder whether it's worth it. The standard of bidding and play is generally way below what I would expect as an intermediate. I see self-described 'Advanced' players play way below what I would consider beginner level. Then results are skewed by the Robots who take the seats of players who disappear. Or games time out and Averages are awarded when on the cards left, it's obvious a contract is going to make or go down with a high score inevitable either way. Has anyone else a similar experience?
