  1. for me, the 1st priority of bridge is to bid our (me and my partner) to the max allowable. 2nd priority is to disturb opponents bid or to create chaos/minor sacrifice bid. thats why, i rarely bid preemptive, too vague and double edge sword effect. and sometime just useless... in this case, in my opinion, 3h bid opening is poor, due to its void and potency. the 1h or 4h opening is the better options, both meaning is similar (in this case). and to reach the slam/grand,.. u need 'guidance' from your 20 pts partner. there's 7h or 7c contract possible, or at least slam. similar: 1h,: ur partner think u have 12 pts, and should be thinking slam possible (30+ pts total). 4h,: 7cards strong, if your partner passed with 20 pts.. find another partner.
  2. oh cmon, this 8-5 distribution is 1 in million chance it should come out, and nothing in ordinary convention cover it. and u say 2h or 4h showing 5-6 or 5-7?. this is like telling that if u have 13 cards all ♥, 1 suit only from 2 to ace, 10 pts, u should pass? not bid 7♥?? THIS IS SPECIAL CASE. the bidding convention create by rule of LOGIC. if somehow u cant use convention due to the 'weird hand', u just need to get back to LOGIC. for me, this is how i see that 8-5 hand: - regardless ur partner points, that hand alone minimum worth 4h contract. - so if u can manage to probe ur partner hand and points, there's a chance to slam. - luckily, ur partner bid first, so u know north have 12 pts ish. - wishful thinking north have 2 aces, ♥ and ♦, u have slam. -so ur effort should be thinking how to make ur partner spill his/her ♦, ♥, and aces. - this is special case, and bidding mode is: u ask - ur partner answer, like 1nt bidding.
  3. 1st row bidding: north and east passed, and u have 18 pts, so we should know the points distribution: 18(south) + 8(north and east) + 14(west) this is tricky, we should never double this kind of distribution, moreover ur opponent have 2 long suits. all u can do is bid ur ♦, 2d, 3d, or gambling to 4d, just by yourself. pushing no points partner with double is worthless and just create more confusing situation.. just imagine if ur hand have zero points and 2 suits 4 cards, and ur partner double to hope u to bid.. what u should bid?? lol..
  4. north passed, logic dictates: - low pts opener (11-13 pts). - low ♥, void to dobelton. so u stuck. hard to know if ur partner have ♦ stopper. i think that becos 2♥ bid is wrong. should bid 2♦. with 2d, with no respond from p.. u can jump to bid 4h easy, so the base minimum contract still achieved. if ur partner respond, bid 4nt to ask ace. i think for slam, we should take the risk (contract failed).
  5. IMHO.. based on the risk, 1♥ is safer bid. with that hand, normally 4♥ contract should be safer than 3nt. if u bid 1♥: -partner with low points (0-6 pts) but have 5 cards can bid 4h. -partner with low pts, low h support maybe passed. -partner with normal pts (7-11) , maybe bid 2h or 1nt --> still have chance to 3nt contract. if u bid 1nt: -big probability u will losing the road to bid 4h, unless ur partner have 4 cards (stayman). - 3nt contract still risky.. since nt need u to have all suit stopper. the thought of bidding 1nt is to have ur partner to know ur points, so maybe there's chance to have 3nt contract with low points, with hope u can save 1 trick difference (10 tricks 4h vs 9 tricks 3nt). but still, the rule of life should apply: big result = minimum effort + big risk, or ..big result = normal effort + normal risk. haha.
  6. hi all, i wonder if anyone care to explain, what to type or how to use various command while playing or bidding, for example: a. how to type cards type (spade, heart, d, c)? b. how to use "explain" command to request partner explaination to his/her bid? thank you.
