  1. I don’t know if they are Daylongs, but they are consistently right after 4AM so it could be something like that.
  2. This is a matter of curiosity for me as I have come across a player who routinely gets three ACBL scores within a five-six minute period. How is that possible? The name is the same, so can you log in on different devices and play three tournaments at once, like some chess players walking around a room? I am just thinking about the technical aspects, not the concentration required, which must be fierce.
  3. Thanks all for the replies and the help. I had been trying to buy the dollars on my iPad but when I went to my MacAir the prices were normal.
  4. Please read my post, I am talking about BBO Dollars. It will cost me $38.99 to buy $30 BBO dollars. The last time I bought them it cost me $30.
  5. I have been away from BBO for awhile and was shocked when I went to buy some dollars. When did they start charging a surcharge? Why not just raise the price to play. They are playing games with me and I am not having it. This is the silliest scam I have seen in a long time. Tell me how much the game is and I will decide if I want to pay it.
  6. Thanks for the responses. Left2Right, I did state in my post that the hand was nine hearts and four losers, but I didn't write down the exact cards. South, the 2C bidder, is an enthusiastic Flight C player who is being mentored by North, a strong Flight A player, this is the reason for the discussion. We are very much a mentoring club and when you all mention calling the director, I am the director. So, as one of you mentioned, no rancour, just learning, and I thought I remembered reading something about long suit 2C openings being not allowed anymore. This C player is starting to attend tournaments and I don't want him to get in trouble. I will tell him to forge ahead with it as long as he considers the bid game force.
  7. Today in my club game I was dealt a great hand, AKQxxxx - AQJ10 Ax. I was 2nd seat and was all set to open 2C with my two loser hand when 1st seat opened 2C! I had to assume long hearts, we were red vs white, and I had a weakish bidding partner so I just bid 6S. 7H was bid which we doubled and set for 1100, sadly. We can make 7S. My partner had my missing kings. Now my question is, South opened 2C with 9 hearts and a 4 loser hand - What is ACBL’s current position on this bidding style? I am not expressing sour grapes, I am the club director, and we were all discussing it later and I said I would bring it up to this forum, and also ask if I should have bid 7S. Thanks, Jo Anne
  8. Thanks for all the really good replies. I especially like the one dealing with the "rude interrupter", and I am going to deal with that person by presenting him with a printout of that excellent reply. Our club is small and keeping a happy balance while maintaining the values of a sanctioned bridge club is my goal. Given my background in bridge governance and directing it should be easy, but.......
  9. I am a club director and after scanning through the new law book I found nothing on this subject and we are having quite a bit of dispute in our games. Is there an actual rule that requires that the opening lead be made before the opening leader writes down the contract on his/her score card? I think it is a matter of good procedure and manners, but not enforceable, although I certainly encourage it. A few of my players rudely insist on it with players who are not going to change and it becomes rather tiresome. I would like to make a final statement about it and not get egg on my face later. Thanks for any help.
  10. Most hobbies are expensive, not just bridge. It's a matter of choice, and the NABC's are very special. Howver if you are not interested in a national event you can do better at a Regional. Why pay to go to a NABC just to play local events. Nowadays even the professionals are hidden away in special rooms or a different building, so the Regional events are just that - a Regional tournament with NABC costs.
  11. I fixed it! I downloaded a new desktop shortcut using the button on the homepage and it works. The old one must have been corrupted somehow. Thanks for responding to me, and for the suggestions. :D Jo Anne
  12. I have ie10 and it was working fine, very strange.
  13. I see very fast flashes that look like they might be a dialog box, right in the middle of the screen.
  14. For the last few days I have not been able to access the BBO login screen. After I click Play on the home screen I get the blank screen with the ad on the left. Then I get some blinking that appears to be BBO trying to come up, but it doesn't. I would appreciate any help. Everything was fine last week and the only thing I have done was update Flash to 12.0 Thanks, Jo Anne
  15. So you opened 1nt with 13, bid hearts over the double (promising 3) and at least a full nt opener and you are upset that GIB bid again? Hmmmm However you are right about some odd bids.
