Hello. I mentor and coach several people on BBO and can give you the improvement help you want. I teach classes via http://www.onlinebridgelessons.com and also teach some private students who take one or two weekly sessions with me. If you want references, I can give you some. You can reach me at yodercm@earthlink.net or via that website. Cheers, Cornelia Yoder

Hello. I teach 2/1 and can usually find a time that works for Australians. I also teach a full 2/1 course regularly on http://www.onlinebridgelessons.com. I expect to teach that class again later this year, so if you sign up for the Newsletter there, you will see when it comes up. I can give you references from some of my students if you wish to inquire, including some from Australia. I can be reached at yodercm@earthlink.net or on BBO as Chick.

Maybe it's time to do away with the Stars entirely. Fred always said no rating system, then implemented one with two levels, Stars and non-Stars. All having a Star does is get you annoyed by team requests and asked a lot of opinions, and make you too arrogant to bother with the lesser rated players.

Well, thank goodness for that at least. Thanks for the reply, Stephen.

Are you telling me that when I play an ACBL tournament using the Windows Client, I'm at a major disadvantage to people using the web browser?????

I asked this question to the "support" link on the GIB homepage, and was told, "Sorry I can't tell you "why" - the answers to such questions are far too complex and technical for me to even attempt to explain them to you." I guess I just have a lot to learn about third-hand play. Perhaps the developer in this forum can shed some light, or perhaps just fix it. http://galaxiesablaze.com/cy/gib-1.jpg

I am copy/pasting the link as text, copied directly from the myhands Movie link.

OK, you wanted an example of the bot bidding an insane slam because he has a singleton in my suit? Here's one: http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?myhand=M-6517588-1349355901

Sorry, didn't realize I was posting "bugs", I thought I was commenting on intentional bidding that I dislike. As for bidding 1N with six spades (had another case just today with 5 spades), if this has been posted before as a bug, why is the robot still doing it? It can't be a hard thing to fix.

Meanwhile, here is a third lesson GIB needs to learn: In 2/1, bidding 1N Forcing absolutely denies 4+ spades, even by a passed hand, even when you have a limit raise of hearts. The auction can go 1H 1S 1N 3H to show a limit raise with 3 hearts and 4+ spades. I have two recent examples of this in screenshots, but I don't know how to insert a jpg here in the forum. One can be seen at http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?myhand=M-5240166-1349136301 Please inform GIB to NEVER bid 1N over 1H with 4+ spades, let alone SIX of them.

Both have happened multiple times but I just discovered this thread. I'll post new occurrances as they happen.

Could someone please teach the $#()*#$^&(@ bots 1. If I bid a suit 4 times, I don't want to play 6N even if he does have a void in my suit. 2. If I jump to 4 of an agreed major, that is fast arrival and I do NOT want to play 5 of the major. Those two things alone would improve the bot's bidding immensely. Thanks!

Now if we could only do the same thing with bidding and defense!

How about we just scrap all stars altogether and forget the whole idea! Fred, you promised us you would not have a rating system on BBO, and you have created one anyway. A two-tier system -- Star or non-Star. Regardless of how objective you try to be, it's still a rating system. Let's just dump the whole idea and remove them all permanently.

I had a case today where someone was rejected correctly, then they clicked again and the permission showed. Not sure if this might have been the case in the past or not. I don't want to post names here, but if you email me at yodercm@earthlink.net, I'll send you the files.
-
I have found that some people in the reject.txt list get rejected, but some do not. Can you think of anything that might cause this?
-
Exactly. I have two motivations for this. 1. I would like to be able to give a list of allowed people who can join a table or chatroom, and have everyone else automatically rejected. This is to automatically control entry to private lessons. 2. I would like to be able to give a list of banned people who are auto-rejected if they try to join my table or chatroom. Similarly, I would like to auto-reject a small number of people who constantly bug me for team matches, without limiting myself to an allowed list. This is to avoid a small number of people who like to harass me by repeatedly asking to sit when they know I don't want to accept them. I'm guessing that the "Permission" window would be what triggers the program in these cases.
-
Would it be possible to have this program also work for permission requests to join a table (kib or player) or a chatroom? Also, it would be wonderful if it could have a choice of an "allowed" or a "reject" list.
-
When I open a chatroom, I have an option to enter a list of "Players invited to enter (separate by commas)" and a checkbox that says "Others require permission to enter". When I enter a list of people, they seem to still require permission to enter, whether they are in the list or not. If I make the table invisible, it is not possible for anyone to enter (for example, by right-clicking my name) even if they are in the list. In fact, I cannot find any difference between people who are in the list and people who aren't. How do I enter a list of names and set the options so those and only those people in the list can enter freely?
