  1. Fixed. The problem turned out to be connectivity related. I'm guessing that a BBO game uses an underlying TCP session that needs to be persistent. So if the client PC jumps between connections, the PC makes a DHCP request, gets a new IP, and the BBO session fails. But let's get back to the problem. This PC has two internet connections, one via the Ethernet port (through power line adapters) and another via Wi-Fi. As expected, the PC was set to always prefer Ethernet. To isolate the problem, I turned off the Wi-Fi radio on the PC and discovered that from time to time, the connection failed entirely. This was news to me, I thought the powerline adapters were rock solid. The reason her email/web browser continued working during past failures was that these new sessions, opened after a connectivity switch from wired to wireless, launched a new session over whatever connection was now available. So I had a home entertainment company come to the house and string Ethernet from the PC to the router. Re-enabled the Wi-Fi as the laptop sometimes hits the road. Problem solved! Robert
  2. Well isolation is always a good first step. We'll give that a try. But BBO is flash based, right? Have any of these troubleshooting ideas made a difference?
  3. Hi, I am trying to troubleshoot a problem for my mother, who lives across the country from me. She's an avid BBO user, but not a technology savvy user. Most of her play is with robots, and everything normally works just fine. Every now and then, her PC / Firefox games "freeze". That is, she clicks to play a card and nothing happens. I don't believe she gets an error message. She's on a quasi-wired connection that I setup for her using power line adapters. During these events, she can still has internet connectivity (email, etc.) I'm happy to get/post more information on her OS/Flash version, etc. I was also wondering if there was a log file I could review? Thanks in advance for your suggestions and help. Robert
  4. No. See posts #26, 33, 36, etc. These posts about three different workaround products are made by different people, each with 3 or fewer posts. They're obviously just marketing their products. I'd argue that they're pointing out a large gaping hole in the BBO portfolio: lack of a native iPad app for playing bridge against humans.
  5. Hopefully when the native app is released, all of these "remotely control your PC with your iPad" spammers will go away...
  6. This app does not support playing bridge with humans. Is that correct?
  7. According to the May 2012 IDC Worldwide Quarterly Media Tablet and eReader Tracker: Sounds like Apple is doing OK with this iPad thingamajig. Might be worth reconsidering the potential market of a native iOS app.
  8. Dated 3/10/2011: According to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Media Tablet and eReader Tracker, 10.1 million media tablets were shipped in the fourth quarter of 2010 (4Q10) - more than double the 4.5 million shipped in the third quarter. Apple's share came down from 93% in 3Q10 to 73% in 4Q10, but still reflected Apple's strong leadership position. Samsung's Galaxy Tab was the primary competitor in the holiday season, beating other players to market and capturing more than 17% share, while a number of smaller regional players also participated. IDC points to Apple's imminent launch of the iPad 2 as reason to believe that the company will be able to maintain 70-80% market share moving forward. In addition, the firm called demand for the Samsung Galaxy Tab "stifled" by uncompetitive pricing and Apple's momentum, suggesting that a high number of the shipped units moved into the distribution channels without making their way to customers. Sounds like a lot of potential BBO players without a client.
  9. Hi, My mom is a dedicated BBOphile. She also travels to a lot of tournaments, and I've been thinking of buying her an iPad. But since my neighbors in Cupertino have refused to support Flash on the iPad, I'm wondering if anyone has tried using BBO on an Android tablet. If so, how's the experience? Seems to me it could be very cool (like holding the cards in your hand) or very clunky... I'm also wondering about BBO's dedication to Flash. Or maybe developing a BBO App for iOS? In general, does the presence of 15 million non-BBO compatible iPads and X million iPhones provide any motivation to consider an App, or a port to HTML 5? Arguably, your target demographic has lots of money to spend on flashy devices... Robert
