  1. A possibly better way to achieve the same goal: A current feature could extended to detect time conflicting tournaments. As it stands, when you invite a player already registered in the same tournament, the software declines the invitation, without notifying the invited player, and you are notified that the player is on another team. When the invited player is not registered in that tournament, the software could then check if either player is registered in a tournament with a time conflict and decline the invitation if so. For example, I invite a player to a Speedball but that player is already registered in the 18 board starting 10 minutes later. The software would detect the time conflict and decline my invitation.
  2. Please review this bridge column, written by Frank Stewart: http://baronbarclay.com/011212.html In the second paragraph under "NINTH TRICK", I disagree with the sentence "If no ten or queen appeared, you'd be back to guessing." First, if west had shown out on either the first or second heart, whether or not the ten or queen appeared, you would lead a third heart through east to set up your ninth trick. That should be obvious, so maybe that is why it wasn't discussed. However, if no ten or queen has appeared and both opponents have followed suit, I believe that you have better than 50-50 odds by leading a third heart, covering with the jack if east plays the ten, otherwise playing your nine. You will only fail to set up your ninth trick if west has all four of the remaining hearts.
  3. A similar problem happened to me just over 2 years ago, and it had nothing to do with BBO's ISP or DNS server. A virus was sending my browser to a bogus DNS server, which directed my computer to fetch the spammer's ads instead of legitimate BBO advertising. Here's a sample screenshot with a bogus ad in the lower right hand corner: http://masterunlocked.com/bbo_adv.jpg In this case, the ad did not fit the character of BBO advertising, so I knew something had to be amiss. The other bridge players at the table were not seeing the ad, and I didn't see it when I logged on to BBO from a different computer. The virus had made its way onto my computer before my virus scanner had been updated to recognize its signature. I was later able to rid my computer of the virus and manually enter the valid DNS server address.
