  1. The fact that I don't pay for BBO doesn't necessarily surrender my expectation of privacy. That being said and having been on BBO for quite some time now, it is my feeling that 95% of players are perfectly fine. So if you're asking that that majority gives up its expectation of privacy for the 5% then I've got a problem. Jola
  2. JT, In that case I'd suggest that you take other tourneys into consideration before posting the start time of your tourney. Once registered I'd hate to disappoint my partner. But more than that, I won't allow you to be in control of my time. Jola
  3. JT, And that's exactly my complaint. If you post the start of your tourney then stick to it. While you're waiting for another tourney to end, my time is being wasted. So let me ask you, don't I count? Jola
  4. Al:-) That's where I want to play "Nice and Quick". While acknowledging the problem and my frustration, I'm not sure what the answer is. Most certainly pushing back the start time is my greatest peeve because it's just plain inconsiderate of those who are there ready to start. Perhaps it would make sense to run smaller tourneys where the round ends on time and whatever adjustments there need to be made would be lesser in numbers? Just thinking out loud, Jola
  5. One more idea occurred to me and that is that as the software tracks who logs off from a tourney, perhaps there could be software that tracks who delays tourneys? Or perhaps directors could get some kind of a word that this or that player registered for a tourney and he/she has been disconnected x number of times per tourney. I really don't know what the answer is but I know that my time is as valuable as Ben's and others and that it is not unreasonable to have an expectation of a tourney's duration. Being forced to abandon playing tournaments is not my idea of fun. So perhaps others will come up with a solution? Yes, I'm lucky, my connection is perfect 99% of the time. Jola
  6. Ben, I'd appreciate very much recommendations of directors who value our time. I'll become their slave:-) if such is needed:-) Jola
  7. I guess this is becoming my pet peeve, considering the penalties, and I'd like to find out what to do. This morning I entered a tourney - 15 bds 5 rounds clocked. In fact, it had something about quick in the title. Each round was to take 24 minutes. The rounds went on and on and on, sort of like the Energizer Bunny. In one round the time ran out and the clock went negative. Now my question is this: - how unreasonable is it for players to expect tourneys to begin on time and to be ran in a timely fashion? - if the tourney drags on, what are my options? I'm aware of a ban when leaving a tourney of own free will. And if I don't want to be banned from BBO, do I become a prisoner of the host? Please advise as I'm considering quitting playing any tourneys. They don't begin on time and they certainly don't end in a reasonable time. With best regards, Jola
  8. I find it absolutely ridiculous that if I register for tournament with 14 minutes before its' start, I may not join a table. Did I really commit such a sin that I'm being punished? That's the way I see it. How many tables that start playing fold after 5 minutes, nevermind 15. Give me a break. Jola
  9. Jimmy, The point of the matter is that whoever it is, it's a gutless critic who needs an idiotic alias to speak his/her mind. I think that something like that is done with tremendous maliciousness in mind. There's absolutely no call for this in BBO community. Jola
  10. Abalucycredibility? Credibility? The answer is simple. Don't participate in the club. I don't believe anyone twisted your arm to get in and no one will twist your arm to resign. The point of the matter is that at least in Abalucy someone cares about players who cheat and they do something about it. Try to show me the same consideration in other clubs. When you can do that, I'll listen to your opinion. Jola
  11. Since 1♦ response can be natural with 7+ pts I'd suggest that a double shows both majors.
  12. While we're on my pet peeve of claims, I wish that upon claim all cards would not become exposed with the exception of claimer. I've noticed that many players claim at trick 6-7 when there still is an unresolved finesse, line of play has not been declared, and now opponents are going to reject? To what end?
  13. When a partner makes an error does saying "WHY??????????????" count as a good partner or a bad partner? Cause I've learned this from someone and I can't get rid of it :)
  14. Dear Misho♥ I'm one of those players who just don't care enough about winning to cheat. Now, put $100,000,000 in front of me and I may start salivating;-) The reason I asked the question is that I host a lot of players in my home and at the moment I've got two PC's, both hooked up to a cable modem. If you ask anymore about that, you'll get no answers as I don't know ;) What seems to be clear is that there is a developing paranoia about cheating. If someone wins a tourney 3-4 times in a row, questions begin. If someone makes a weird play that works, the rumble can be heard all the way in Timbuktu. I don't think that this makes for a healthy atmosphere for the winners nor for those who do the suspecting. The fact that a player's address appears in more than one instance to me is no proof. I'm also trying to figure out if I'm just naive or if others are paranoid; I want a diagnosis :P ♥ Jola
  15. Thanks a bunch and then a whole great big lot♥ Jola
  16. Then I guess a natural next question is what do people do who host other players at their house, and those guests, to hosts' relief :D would like to get busy on BBO under their own alias? How about if they host a whole team of players with one or two pc's available? Now what? ♥ Jola
  17. I guess I need to address this to everyone who knows for sure, no guessing now B) 1. What is BBO's position on multiple alias connections in a short span of time? 2. If a player logs on from the same IP address with 2-3 aliases, is this a reason to suspect something untoward? I'm one of those people who'd like a clear answer, if at all possible. With best regards ♥ Jola
  18. To Ben and DrTodd: If the tone of my previous was offensive I apologize. I was not even aware that DrTodd is a director:-) hehehehe I guess I sleep on BBO most of the time. I think we're heading in the direction of candidates for world leaders - many qualified, none want the job. People who run events put up with a lot and then to have criticism here, it can turn people off. I don't even pretend to want the job. Perhaps there could be a check list created for TD's so that they can check all that apply? Sometimes people might forget to mention some condition of contest that is important to a player. Be it the level of participants or ban on psyches. Jola
  19. Dr. Todd: I've got a suggestion for you. Instead of creating a master list of directors and their level of competence why don't you become a director? That way you could gather together all those who are poor players and poor directors and you could actually teach them. I resent criticism of volunteers who definitely try their best and without whom you'd not be able to play tourneys in the first place. Perhaps a reality check is in order. Jola
  20. P.S. Misho, I'd love to take you up on your offer ♥. And thank you for offering in the first place. ♥ Jola
  21. Dear Misho  Don't know about any other part of the world but as of 200 years ago you get to psych once during a tourney in the US. I think there is some sanction after the second one. Actually I'm a bit hazy on the whole thing since I don't psych. I'm not sure if it's per tournament or per session. In either case, since there are sanctions, it's normal that US players will tend to report psychs. ♥ Jola
  22. To Misho: Hey Misho  If I go to play in BIL then how will I learn to handle psyches? It's worth a few zeroes to learn and then maybe I can get to the beginner level  If all I cared about was winning there's a novice game every Wednesday night at a local bridge club  Reporting psyches is not in the spirit of a ban; it's in a spirit of fair competition as I've said in my previous post. If I psych every other hand with a steady partner, do you really think that my partner won't realize it? Had I ever asked for a score adjustment because of one of them then your suspicion about results would be correct. ♥ Jola
  23. I'm just a novice and handling psychs is difficult for me (I just opened the door lol) but what I've began doing is sending a private message to TD reporting the psych, asking for non-alteration of result. This is done in hopes that there is a central storage of psych players. The point is that if you play with a partner long enough your psychs become a fact of life and partner will pick them out. That I would consider an unfair playing field.
  24. It makes my blood boil when I see a topic of kibs being related to the frequency of cheating. Do we really have such a low opinion of players and kibs alike to bring this up like a bad meal? Some will point to my post re: kibs; different situation, that was personal. So please lighten up and stop with the paranoia, cause I assure you that out of 800 kibs you might find 1 who is logged in for another person to shine. And if I'm right, then let's get on with our lives and leave this topic alone.
