  1. Ha ha ha, this would really add to the overall ambiance of the game.
  2. ACBL does allow the Polish Club system as long as we don't play the Wilkosz convention. Interestingly enough I believe that this ban has led to the Multi convention. Thank you for the invite :) will check it out.
  3. These were free tourneys, very well frequented that offer a lot of a variety of systems and players. We don't play ACBL because our cc is for WJ2005 and we play the 2000 version and I have a devil of a time to delete this cc or to edit it. I'm not very computer savvy, to say the least. Playing ACBL would be great except we like the speedball and explaining our bids and system takes too long. It is only out of consideration for others that we avoid it. The regular ACBL tourneys are just too slow.
  4. My post was not meant as an indictment of BBO, which is a bridge player's dream come true. It was more of a frustration that our game is suffering.
  5. Tonight we played in a few tournaments and I am prepared to quit playing online. The level of rudeness has hit an unacceptable level. -When we arrive at the table we greet opponents. Very seldom does anyone bother to even say "hi". How terribly sad. -We play the Polish Club. It is always announced and we have a posted cc (I don't know how to get rid of it). Invariably we hear, "Is Polish Club allowed here?" "Please alert every bid". When we say that not alerted bids are the same as sayc, it goes somewhere over opps' heads. Seldom do our opps announce their system and we presume, at directors' insistence, that when there is no announcement, the system is sayc. That's what we presume. Great. -We play udca, we lead 2/4. Again, announcement made without any reciprocity. So, at directors' insistence, we assume opps play standard carding. -Announcement is made by the organizers "English only during bidding and play". I don't think anyone reads those announcements. My partner(s) and I are also bi-lingual and we will be more than glad to reciprocate in Polish. We are really good at it  Tonight we played against a pair who violated every rule posted. They spoke their language during bidding, during play, they definitely made no announcement regarding the system or carding and they definitely weren't playing standard carding. No idea what system they played as director booted them for not responding. I asked if the director would adjust the score and for the answer I got "I booted them, no adjustment". The very next table, we went through something similar; I just stopped complaining. Then a great table and then mutes again. The worst part of all this is that these players have blank profiles. I wonder if there is a way to disallow any tournament registration to blank profiles. Since in these tournaments we play for the pleasure of the game, I will stop playing. The lack of ethics really bothers me. I have a feeling that bridge on the whole has lost a huge number of players this way. I might try a few live tournaments and we'll see where it goes. In the meantime, I will come online to kib or to play in a game where I know players. No more tournaments.
  6. I find accusations of cheating rather senseless. If we will presume that there are statistically successful lines of play good players will take, that's great. If we will presume that most players make up these statistics as they go along, that's not so great. Suddenly we have accusations of cheating because a player didn't take "the correct" line to succeed. Frankly, many players play whichever way their "card sense" will tell them to and there is no mathematical explanation for it. Please refrain from calling people cheaters if their thinking isn't in sync with yours when it comes to playing and enjoying this great game.
  7. Hello :-)) Tonight I played a tournament and at the very first table, the SAYC announcement was made and the following occurred: 2♥ - 4♣ - 4♦ - 5♣ - 5♥ - 6♥ We did not interfere and I got interested at the 5♣ bid and clicked on the 4♣ expecting not sure what. The answer was that's Gerber. Now I clicked 2♥ and the answer was "1 king". I asked in private and was told that it's "weak". After we moved to the next round, I asked the director to take a look at this and the director kept telling me that in his movie, the declaring players alerted. I have to admit, this is not the first time I've run across this answer. I know I have the option not to play in this director's tournament, however, I can't be the only one who is amazed at the response that "nothing wrong occurred, everything was alerted". I am frustrated (the only time I reach out to the forum). Is there a way to program alerts where directors can tell the difference between an inquiry and an honest alert? Best regards, doof
  8. A fascinating thread, filled with comments that an average viewer doesn't consider. Thank you.
  9. A heartwarming story, and it's not a story. Good luck and lots of love and happiness. doof
  10. Somewhat on topic. What has happened to transmissions from Turkey?
  11. Allegedly bridge is a game for relatively awake individuals. These ladies could have fooled me (more so than their husbands) ^_^ The whole story begs for an answer to one question - can this Romeo play bridge? :-)
  12. Just played in a tournament with my favorite partner, waltrak. While my play left a lot to be desired (as usual), the server was shaky. At some point, I got kicked out and it took a short while to get back. As I got back and got seated I noticed that waltrak then got kicked out and there were 9 minutes left till next round. No biggie, right? Except that all of a sudden I had a new partner, the TD posted next to the tourney name was nowhere in sight, the new partner didn't wish to leave the seat, so I just signed off. I know, I committed a deadly sin, but I hope that powers that be will make certain allowances for situations like these without suspending me. I would like to know what are my responsibilities as a participant in a tournament as this is the very first time I've signed off while a tournament is in progress. doofik
  13. You might wish to take a look at today's (nov 23rd) NABC bulletin. On page 6 there's "Oversight Committee" and the expulsion of said players from ACBL.
  14. Thank you Uday and Ben, now I understand a lot more than before this topic appeared here. I think that all members of BBO needed to be educated in what the process is and how it happens. I rate myself to be one of the nicest people you'll ever meet, but I've walked a fine line because I'm not much of a "yes" person. There are lots of people like I on BBO who will stick to their point if convinced that they're 100% right. Now the fine line appears. Thank you again, doofik
  15. That's exactly the issue Justin. There is nothing that guides players who 'step' a bit out of the ordinary. Perhaps neither player should have been banned or perhaps both of them should have been thrown out. Who knows? No one does, that's the issue. doofik
