  2. [hv=pc=n&s=sk72hkdakqt873cq5]133|100[/hv] Hi all, playing a fairly basic 2/1 system, what would you open with this hand and what would your subsequent bidding plan be? The scoring is in IMPs. Thanks!
  3. [hv=pc=n&s=s76hakqj84d82cqj3&n=sa9h6daqt9ca98642]133|200[/hv] With South dealer, is there a good method of finding the club slam using 2/1? This is in a teams context, but were it MPs, is there a good method that does not bypass exploring the possible contracts of 3NT and 4H? Thanks!
  4. Hi, I have been enjoying playing the new Vugraph Games feature over the past couple of weeks. However, I have found that as the host of the table, when my friends take a seat after I set a deal source, BBO's auto-redeal function will kick in. Because of this, the Vugraph set we play will have 1 or more deals fewer than it should have. Furthermore, although the dealer moves with the redeal, the vulnerability stays the same. This causes us to be playing with the vulnerability of the previous board throughout the whole set. I think that I can work around this by setting the deal source after all the players have taken their seats so that auto-redeal will not take effect (I have not tried this yet), but would it not be better and easier to just disable the auto-redeal function for vugraph tables? As an example of what I am talking about, if a player takes a seat after I load a deal source which starts from board 1, the hand will be redealt and I will see the cards for board 2 instead. However, while the dealer changes to East, the vulnerability will remain none vulnerable, which is not the same as the board which was played in the actual match. Thanks!
  5. Hi all, [hv=pc=n&s=saqhkj963dkjt74c6&w=st963h74dq95ckj72&n=sj8742hqda32ca954&e=sk5hat852d86cqt83&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=1hp1sp1nppp]399|300[/hv] Matchpoints. As can be seen, 3NT by NS is cold on a non-club lead, even if diamonds are guessed wrongly. We did not do well in the defence either, only getting them 3 off. After East's semi-psyche light opening, was there anyway we could have done better? Should South have overcalled at any time?
  6. Hi all, What should a 3NT overcall of a 2 level preempt typically show? And what would be the difference between a direct 3NT overcall and a double, followed by 3NT, assuming we play Lebensohl over takeout doubles? Over the weekend, I overcalled my opponent's 2♥ with 3NT in the direct seat on a 19 count 5341 hand, with AQT in hearts. This led to a poor result as we had a 10 card spade fit and was cold for both 6♠ and 6NT, and partner did not take action with his 10 count 5224 hand. Thanks!
  7. Hi all, I would like some opinions regarding the best lead on this hand. Is it a complete guess? [hv=pc=n&s=s87h952dj865caqt3&d=s&v=e&b=3&a=ppp4sppp]133|200|Matchpoints[/hv] EW are strong club players. Is the best lead in this auction an active club, a passive trump, or something in between like a red suit? How close is it? Does this change if playing IMPs? Thanks!
  8. If my partner and I have agreed to lead the ace for attitude and the king for count against suit contracts, should the partner of the opening leader encourage with a small doubleton when the ace is led? Looking at opening leader's point of view, from which AK holdings would one normally lead the ace or one normally lead the king? A solid holding (AKQ) would normally lead the king, but what about unsupported AK to 3, 4 or 5 cards? Does it matter if it is a suit that has been bid naturally, either by opening leader or opponents? Thanks!
  9. Hi all, [hv=pc=n&s=sqj6hdj9763ca9762&w=s84hak9432dqt52c4&n=sat9732hjt8dacjt3&e=sk5hq765dk84ckq85&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=1cp1h1s2h2s4hpp4sppdppp]399|300[/hv] IMPs. There were 10 tricks on the club king lead. Should West's pass over 4♠ be forcing? Assuming it is, should he have passed, and should East have doubled? Thanks.
  10. Hi all, [hv=pc=n&w=sk874hk2dkjt5ck65&e=shqt873daq963caq8]266|100[/hv] IMPs. I'm working from memory so I can't remember the vulnerability. East is dealer, and South overcalls 1♠ if East opens 1♥. Our auction is in the spoiler tags below.
  11. Hi all, Thanks for the opinions. I was sitting in the North seat, and the hand I had was closest to what Phil_20686 suggested. I would assume that were we playing responsive doubles, I would have to pass with my hand, waiting for partner to possibly reopen with a double. Partner bid 2NT, presumably meaning it as asking me to choose a minor, but I was not on the same wavelength and passed, going 1 off. As it happens, we do not have a making contract at the 3 level, and the best result we could have taken was 500 in a 2♥X contract. [hv=pc=n&n=skq62hj954djt6ckt]133|100[/hv]
  12. Hi all, I was playing in a new partnership (2/1) a few days ago when this situation came up: [hv=pc=n&s=sjt4h6daq72caq985&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=p1h2c2hdp]133|200|Matchpoints[/hv] Perhaps a first round takeout double would be better, but South chose to bid his clubs. What does North's double show, and would it matter if North was not a passed hand, or whether the partnership was playing NF free bids after overcalls? What would South's best bid be in this case? Thanks!
  13. Hi all, [hv=pc=n&s=skjt95h862dq6caj3&w=s6hakj3dkjt9742c5&n=sq8732hqt954da8c8&e=sa4h7d53ckqt97642&d=e&v=0&b=14&a=3cp3dp3s(Not%20alerted)p4dppp]399|300[/hv] The EW pair had a convention card for the event, but the 3♠ bid in this sequence was not found on their card. It was not alerted either. Thinking the bid was natural, the South player chose to pass instead of double for the lead. At the end of the auction, the North player inquired about the 3♠ bid, and was told that she thought it showed a stopper in the suit bid, but was not sure. A heart was led, which allowed the contract to make. The director was called at the end of the hand and the ruling was that there was no misinformation since the EW pair did not have a firm agreement and that the South player ought to have inquired about the bid before passing, hence there would be no adjustment. Was this the right ruling, and was the South player correct to wait until the end of the hand before summoning the director, or should he have done so immediately after he heard the correct explanation before the opening lead? Thanks!
  14. Hi all, What would you bid in the following auction? [hv=pc=n&s=s62haq9dkqjt9854c&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=p1s4c]133|200|Matchpoints[/hv] Partner's hand for those who are interested: Thanks!
  15. Hi all, If the auction has proceeded as below: 1D P 1S P 2D P P X What would be a sensible meaning for this double, and what kind of hand should it show? (Point range, suit count etc) Thanks!
