  1. it was a ruling hand. he put it on the laws section. the player led a spade after receiving that explanation and got a bad result. in fact the explanation was wrong and it should have been good suit, bad hand. the player argued that it would then be obvious to lead a heart and get a better result. the director and appeals committee essentially said, leading a spade was ridiculous/unusual/etc under any explanation so there's no reason to assume the right explanation would make him change his mind.
  2. It occurs to me you might know the method by a different name - I'm talking about xfer responses to 1 club. Traditionally (I thought) pre-transfers you would raise partner's major response on 3 cards holding a 5431 shape if minimum and pattern out with extras, e.g. 1C - 1H - 2H could be 3 and 1C - 1H - 1S - 1NT - 2H shows a 5431 shape with extra values. Obviously you could do the same thing in t-walsh and raise to the 2 level on 5431s, but everywhere I see the 2 level raise marked as 4 cards. Is this just lazy typing and they're really raising on 3 after all or does the patterning out route no longer show extras? If it doesn't show extras I would think you would end up in difficulties on many deals, so is there a solution? ta
  3. How would you suggest playing this sequence under the following conditions? Feel free to suggest it as jacoby if you can find a suitable use for 2NT (see below) 2/1, strong NT you can already differentiate between WJS and constructive spade hands without it you're playing 1M - 2C as a relay....... so for example you could make 2S jacoby (with whatever +ves and -ves that implies), but that would leave 2NT as unused because you don't need it as GF balanced 1M - 3x is currently natural invitational, but could be changed obviously you've got lots of options. thanks
  4. 2h first time. in no way do i consider this 'top-heavy'. admittedly i'm a little biased and play a system designed to avoid 3 card limit raises to the 3 level. anyway, if i was planning to show a limit raise with your methods i would start with 1NT so at least partner doesn't assume his spade honours are fitting with my suit.
  5. [hv=pc=n&s=sat53h62d72cj5432&d=w&v=n&b=12&a=1n2s4h]133|200[/hv] 2♠ was 5♠/4m. 1NT was 15-17. scoring is imps. support with support?
