Thanks for the replies. I rebid an admittedly conservative 2H. The hand is improved by the spade fit so I thought about 3H but I didn't like the stiff A and weak H suit. Either the temporising 2C (I now better understand the merits of this bid. I did fleetingly consider it at the time but was concerned that it didn't get across either of the 2 main features of my hand - (i) the 6th heart; (ii) the 3 card spade holding) or 3H should get you to the cold game we (I) missed - partner held ♠KQxx ♥10xx ♦Kxxx ♣ xx.
