  1. Don't really see what the problem is here. Unless N was a sub and looked at the cards for the rest of the deck, then there's no offence committed. Just because an action isn't considered normal, it doesn't make it illegal. Besides which, 3C should go off one at least, and if doubled concedes 200 against a not exactly laydown 2H which is +110 at best
  2. Pass. I want to defend. When it goes pass pass X I'll pass again.
  3. YOu hold: QTxx void xxx Txxxxx bidding goes: (4H) X (P) to you should you pass, and hope partner has a good enough hand to beat it, or take it out?
  4. Another reason why I REALLY don't like Acol. Suppose partner has this hand: x AQJxx Axxx Kxx This hand will open 1H, hear a 1NT response. Now it doesn't have enough to jump shift by quite some way, so rebids 2D. When he gets a preference of 2H, how is he supposed to know that partner has a useful 8 count with 3 card support for his first suit, rather than some horrible 5/6 count with only a small doubleton in support
  5. This suit is never going to be a 4H opening. Give me an ace and a queen and I'll open this at the 1 level; ditch the ace and then I open it 3H
  6. I bid 2D at the time, but now prefer 2NT. As Alain said, I'm putting down a diamond in my heart suit by mistake...
  7. Looks like a fairly reasonable NAMYATS hand to me. 4C. I'm an idiot. Just realised we're in 4th seat. So 4H is fine, I doubt we'll have a slam if partner couldn't open.
  8. Doing what exactly? Taking views? Overbidding? If boards are going to be adjusted for overbidding, we might as well all give up playing now.
  9. 4D. People might well be hesitant to open 3C with a solid suit, but to overcall 3C people wouldn't have any problems with it at all. Hence the chances of them cashing the top 6/7 club tricks is a genuine danger.
  10. If you don't like a take-out double, then rebid 2S. 3C is a hand that would have made a jump shift to 3C if that was available. The balancing notion of adding a K to your suit doesn't apply here, since partner is either a) trapping or B) broke.
  11. When you bid 3C, you're showing a strong 2 suiter not suitable for a take-out double, on account of the fact that your hand might not be good for defence. Hence he was completely right to compete to AT LEAST 3S.
  12. I pass. This double is just cards now, and I don't have the shape to warrant playing at the 5 level. Partner could bid 4NT if he didn't want me to pass
  13. I think the idea is that given the hand you've got there, what value of H do you need to bid 3C as opposed to pass. It isn't the quality of your suit that he's asking about. So if your hand is Kx Qx JTx AJTxxx would you overcall? If not, change the J of diamonds to the Q, would you overcall now? Or the K? or A?
  14. A raise here should really show about a K extra. Partner is still there
  15. No, I would say this was no-one's fault. Why should partner introduce a rattyclub suit without any of the top 4 honours, with no guarantee of support, over a pre-empt which has no guarantee of making
  16. Say you're playing 2/1 and the auction proceeds like this 1H P 2C (4S) is pass now forcing? I would say yes, because you're in a game forcing situation and your side hasn't pre-empted or limited their hand. why is this any different when the auction goes: 1C (3H) 3S (not playing NFBs, so GF, since 4 of a minor is forcing) (4H)
  17. AS I understand it, partner bid 3H and LHO bid 3S (presumably showing a good hand, since he passed first time). In which case 3H is setting trumps, so I'll cue 4C (my cheapest control)
  18. I think the title of the problem gives the solution away. It's more interesting of course, at matchpoints.
  19. I think he meant the auction went: P P 1H P 2H P P ? and he was in 4th seat
  20. No-one fancy a raise to 2H here? I think it's a more useful bid than introducing a ratty spade suit.
  21. NO, it's still take-out. So I'm afraid you're passing again. Partner is likely to be short in hearts, and didn't reopen, so he has very little. Take the sure plus Having said that, I would have overcalled 1NT
  22. I wouldn't If I was going to do anything I'd bid 2C, or maybe a Raptor 1NT if I had that available
