  1. Thanks to all those who took the trouble and time to reply.
  2. At the club last week, because of the illness of one of the partners, the pair left after two rounds. We use Bridgemates and Pairsscorer. How should we have scored the competition? 9 table Howell, 22 boards. 11 rounds Thanks
  3. Problem with one Bridgemate keypad last night changing (batteries) I had a problem with a Bridgemate keypad at our club last night. Unfortunately all the Bridgemate experts in the club were absent. We were playing an 8 table 24 board Howell and I was sitting North at table 6. The computer was set up properly and we were ready to go. 1. I pressed OK and got a message to change the batteries. 2. I changed the batteries immediately and got a black display. No matter what I did I failed to lighten the display. 3. We then changed keypad 15 to 6. 4. When I pressed OK to enter the details I was told that the system had not been activated. 5. We ended up using paper score sheets for table 6 and got a result for the night. I would appreciate any help in case the same thing occurs again. I know a tiny bit about Bridgemates, but clearly not nearly enough. Thanks. Pat
  4. QJ65 AQ84 Q986 7 10 AK83 932 --- A105 KJ32 1089532 AKQKJ9 9742 KJ10765 74 4 The above hand was Board 3, Segment 1 of the Quarter Finals of the USBC in Denver, CO. The contract was 6 clubs by West. Opening lead: Ace of Hearts When the opening lead was tabled, John Hurd, West claimed 13 tricks. How could he see 13 tricks? Did it depend on a successful finesse in diamonds. Thanks Beginner PS How do I insert hand diagrams into a post? Thanks
  5. Recently the following occured at the club. N: 3 ♠ (opening bid) E: Pass S: 1 ♥ ( He did not see the 3 spade bid!!!) West accepted the insufficient bid. I did not hear what West bid. What now happens to the 3♠ bid by North. Jim
  6. Does anyone know of any club that has reverted from machine dealt hands to manually dealt hands?
  7. Are copies of the hand records printed for everyone?
  8. Dealing Machines v Manually Dealt Hands. My Bridge club has a dealing machine on trial and it has led to a lot of discussion both for and against. 1. Some people find the hands interesting and challenging. There are very few dull flat hands. There are lots of five and six card suits, singletons and voids. 2. Others find these types of hands very difficult. They prefer the more “normal” hands that were generated by manually dealt hands. 3. Beginners find machine dealt hands difficult to bid. They don’t seem to fit into any of the categories of hands they were taught in their lessons. This has made things very difficult for their teachers. 4. The fear is that the continued use of machine dealt hands will cause some people to give up bridge altogether. No one wants that. 5. Hand records are not an issue. I see the last post on this topic was in July 2012. If more people have bought dealing machines since then I would like to hear of their experiences.
