  1. I have also found no need to use anything but a rich text editor of some kind (Word, LaTeX, HTML). I'm currently using word with similar nifty macro's like Free's (in colour!). @Free: I have found a macro for + as in showing 16+, or 5+♥ helpful.
  2. Misread the part about privately asking... It sort of looked like South and North asked about double, which is of course not done.
  3. I cannot see why this would be funny, I would never play at the same table as South again. 4♥ was 'bleeding obvious'. Also privately ask what double is is not done. I would rather make my decision and apologize or ask why it was wrong after that.
  4. I'm getting old. Anyway, playing with anyone I know this is not close to 1♠. I'm sure there are some that will play openings like this but I shiver what that does to the rest of my system... Well in Precision it's probably no problem but Zar was considering a standard system right? Anyway, 2♠. Good suit, good values, no 1st round control. With a second flaw (for example an ace or a void) I'd pass.
  5. My try: Pass (0 - 8 or 16+) - 2♣ (Club positive) 2♦ (nat. GF) - 3♣ (Nothing to bid) 4♣ (RKC) - 4♦ (1) 4♥ - 5♥ (Q but no K) 5NT (Try for 7) - 6♣ (nothing outside clubs) 7♣ (KQxxxx and nothing else is not a positive) Precision: 1♣ - 2♣ then the same. 2/1: 2♣ - 3♣ then same.
  6. If you open 1♠ the auction continues: Pass - 1NT - Pass
  7. Anyway, what went wrong: After not having doubled 2♠ for takeout west's double must be interpreted as a penalty double so east should pass it. In fact 4♠ can be defeated if east returns a club rather than a diamond (this is hard!). Nevertheless, west should not have doubled 4♠. Also correcting 5♥ to 6♦ does not seem very smart. Did he really think the doubling would stop? My guess is down 7. Am I right?
  8. I recently 'discovered' that Jack can play PBN deals so I can let it play deals from a PBN file with north dealer and then the same hands with east dealer.
  9. That's clever, I like it much more than my plan.
  10. 1♦ for me, this is a bad hand for a standard system.
  11. What I was hoping for is a plan how to find out if partner has the right hand... I want to play 7♠ as well if partner has ♠KQ, but I don't know that at this point :) Assume almost standard methods (5-card majors, 2♣ GF or SGF in a major or NT, 2♦ Multi, 2M Dutch Two)
  12. Oops forgot about the entry problem when LHO gets in and plays a diamond. A better plan is to take the Ace of Spades unless West plays the 10 and you know East gets in. Then discard on the Club and play another Spade. Hmm... maybe it is better to just finesse the Diamond after all.
  13. Diamond finesse is 50%, let's see if this can be improved. The second plan is to play for spades. This works whenever they are 2-2 (40% chance) or when the singleton is the king (12.5%). It becomes even better because if RHO has singleton Q (another 6%) our LHO has KJT and probably won't play the King on a small Spade. If RHO has all the Spades you can still fall back on the diamond finesse (another 2.5%). In total 61% or so. So my plan is to take the Queen, King, ruff and a Spade to the 9. Someone gets in and will not immediately give his partner a Spade ruff (chance shown above). You win the return, draw trumps, play Ace of Spades, discard a Spade on the Ace of Clubs and ruff a Spade.
  14. Found the hand records: The ♠10 was missing. Still the same plan Free (you are in 1st seat).
  15. [hv=d=s&v=b&s=saj85432hdakq652c]133|100|Scoring: MP[/hv] This hand is from a real life tournament and the first hand you pick up after coming back from lunch. When you see that 2 suits are missing the first thing you think is that there was something in the food that makes you see things. After making sure you really have this hand, what's your plan?
  16. Me too: 4C both majors 4red transfer 4S Blackwood 4NT Quantitative for small slam 5NT Quantitative for grand slam
  17. I think its popularity comes from the ACBL's regulations where reversing 2C and 2D is not allowed in GCC games.
  18. Absolutely 100% takeout. Penalty doubles are not 'sure profit'. Lacking a takeout double can be trouble as well.
  19. Obviously south is dealer, if north is on first you get 2NT 7NT or the like. 1♦ - 1♠ Now both underbid at least twice and miss 7NT?
  20. ER... HO. HO. HO. Have a nice midwinter celebration.
  21. 2♠. Respond to the question asked. If I predict a unanimous panel I will be laughed at so I won't do that but I think it will be close to that.
  22. Please, 4♣ is key card BLACKWOOD there is no such thing as Keycard Gerber. I like 3♦ - 6♦ as well. Preempt from A to Z use control asking bids, that would get you to 7 on suitable hands like: Kx x AJTxxxx xxx 3♦ - 4♥ (CAB) 4NT (2nd round) - 5♠ (CAB) 5♣ (2nd round) - 7♦ If you want to play 4♥ you have to bid 3♥ 4♥.
  23. Can I add a systemic suggestion? After 1♣ - 2♦ - 2♥ play that a jump shift shows a control in the suit ♥ and 4-card support. It cannot be a splinter because 2♦ showed a balanced hand. Then you won't have this problem, at (the) other table(s) the auction might go 1♥ - 3♣ Bergen and they will be miles ahead of you although the point of Precision was to set up a low-level GF to get more precision...
  24. If you know you have 10 trumps you should always show the Queen of trumps as you know that if it is missing it is not likely to matter. This is not a question of lying, partner's question is to be understood as: Do you have the Queen of trump or a 10-card fit for me? I think with four trumps it is a close decision but because I have JTxx I would lie here, jumping to 4NT without QJT of trumps probably suggests he has 6 of them. So my answer is: Yes but not without J or 10.
  25. I play the cue bids as natural as long as opponent's bid in the suit did not promise 5 cards. About 1NT natural: I seem to get doubled a lot when I try that, so that's a 2-suiter. 1NTx with 17 opposite 1 does not seem to play well... 1NT more distributional than Dbl and emphasizes the lowest unbid suit.
