Hand 1: South's 6♣ bid was poor; it might well have been right to double 4♠ on the round before, but not putting aa flag on 5♠ was absurd. Hand 2: How can South not show 6♠s? If you play WJS South might have shown a constructive hand with a 2♠ bid, or without that agreement bid 3♠ invitational. Having decided to force with 2♦ he cant just wimp out now and not GF. That said North had an obvious 2♥ bid.

5NT. I'm sure we want to give slam in a minor a go, but we need to illicit partners help regarding strain.

This would be a good hand for 4H/S showing different 4S bids, but in the abscence of any such agreement I think you just have to settle for 2S and hope its not passed out.

The 5♥ and/or the 4NT to make sure we know that 1 keycard won't cut the mustard

Seems like partner has declared a club fit and all the keycards, I'd just bid 7♣ now.

Within the letter of the law I believe declarer is 2 off since the believes there is ♣Qx off. I do feel sorry for declarer and wouldn't seek a ruling as East did; if West was half awake and could be bothered to contribute either of his utterly worthless cards to the trick this would never have occurred in the first place.

I see only 11 cards in the North hand and 12 in the South, but seeing as no-one else has commented it must just be me :(
