  1. Which version of Precision were you planning on playing? More importantly, what times are you available to play? I may be interested.
  2. That looks like the bidding from a pick-up partner a few days ago. If he had 12+ hcp, he felt it a moral obligation to compete to the 4 level, no matter how many times I passed. I had never seen so many penalty doubles coming my way.
  3. There's no option for those of us that play strong 1♣? IF you are going to force me into a standardish system, then 1♦.
  4. I'm pretty sure I get stuck at 6NT: 1♦-2♥ (11-15 w/ 2+♦; 16+ NT, 16+ long ♥ or ♥+♦) 2♠-3NT (Relay; 19-20, balanced) 6NT-p
  5. I've had the five of trumps finessed on me, too. The five was led from the table, and I had the K3 (the A was not in dummy). I thought "surely partner can cover the five, so I played low. Declarer added the four, and partner played his stiff deuce. A second trump dropped my king. Needless to say, it was a poor board for us.
  6. I'm prety sure we get there with East as dealer: .....1♣ (16+) 2♣ - 2♦ (8+, 5+♦; tell me about your ♦) 2NT - 3♣ (5♦ w/ 2 of 3 top H; how about your clubs?) 3NT - 4♠ (1st round control; and spades?) 5♣ - 6♦ (3rd round control; pity) 7♦ (But I do have an extra you don't know about) With West opening it's a little different: 1♦ - 2♥ (11-15, 2+ ♦; 18-19 bal, 16+ ♥ or 16+ ♥ & ♦) 2♠ - 3♦ (relay; ♥ & ♦) 4♣ - 4♥ (cue; cue) 4NT - 5♦ (1430; 3 KC) 6♦ - 7♦ (good; extras) Not sure if the West opening would actually get there, though. It might just be me knowing where the auction needed to get to.
  7. I don't have Namyats in my arsenal, so I plunk down 4♥ and pray partner has a winner or 2. And being the pessimistic type, I see a loser in my heart suit.
  8. I'm wondering if the numbers SHOULD match up between regular partners. Obviously some of them should. System complexity kind of has to be agreed between the partners. But what about bidding aggression. My partner is pretty aggressive. Knowing that, I usually temper my enthusiasm, knowing that he is known to overbid at times in competitive auctions. So that score probably needs a little bit of disparity. As for the new scales, I am on the masochist side of things, blaming myself often. I am very much on the pessimist side, in life as well as at the bridge table. I am slightly on the introverted side. I'll acknowledge good play, both by our side or by the opponents, but I don't give out kudos on every hand. I play very fast (probably too fast), but my bidding tends to be pretty even unless I need to search the memory banks for a particular bid's meaning. Playing precision, informative auctions are the norm, both to partner and to the opponents. And that damn song is now going through my mind now. Thanks a lot. Eight Six Seven Five Three Oh Niiine!
  9. Interesting. I rated myself as 776577 after some internal debate. The post-mortems definitely belong after the session, but all negative hands and some of the postitives deserve scrutiny. For a good time call!
  10. I'd have to ask my partner, but I suppose it might go something like: 1C(16+)-1NT(8-13) 2D(5+♦)-2H(4♥) 3D(6+♦)-3NT 4NT(Quant)-6NT He might also go via a 2♣, an asking bid for shape/strength, where we probably end in 6♦ or 6♥, so I'm not entirely sure.
  11. It shows 4xS, nothing more. If partner does have a balanced minimum, though, I'd expect his 4 spades to be pretty good.
  12. Pass. You've told your story, and partner didn't care much for it. You have nothing left to tell.
  13. This was my first inclination as well.
  14. But a heart lead doesn't hurt you. Declarer needs to ruff one heart in dummy regardless of the play. One heart loser goes on the Q♣. Once a low diamond is gone from dummy, declarer can only finesse you once for the Q♦, and you'll score a trump trick eventually. In fact, the club lead doesn't hurt, either. Declarer is going to take the K, A and Q for a heart discard no matter what. The only way for declarer to MAKE this contract is if partner leads a spade, declarer ruffs with the 8♦ and you cover with the Q.
  15. thanks but this is the standard response and i want to know how to play 7 card fit when they happen Umm, carefully? It really depends on what the two hands look like, same as any other hand with an 8+-card trump fit. There are plenty of ways to play a Moysian, it's all dependent on the specific hand. My partner made 4H in a Moysian yesterday, missing the A. He forced out the A, ruffed a loser in the short hand, and then drew trump and played winners out. It's all hand dependent. Moyse's main teaching was that one shouldn't be afraid of game with only a 4-3 fit if the suit is a good one.
  16. I don't see us ever getting there. 1♦ - 1♥ 1♠ - 2♣* 2NT - 3NT 2♣=fsf Because of our limited 1♦ openings (11-15), North knows we don't have the horses for a nt slam, even with a maximum.
  17. Which gadgets do you like. My partner and I play 2/1 over 1D/H/S, Michaels, U2NT, Checkback Stayman, 1430, splinters, Inv m (over 1D), Exclusion 1430, J2NT, Strong Jump Shifts. Pick what your comfortable with. The only openings where the gadgets don't apply are 1C, 2C and 2D, at least in our system. And 2C/D are so descriptive, gadgets really aren't necessary. That might have hurt were it not true :( Actually, I'm very proud of my defensive play. Most of the time.
  18. OP mentioned he had a club opener with a heart suit, so it sounds like they were playing a strong club system. Now the fact that he never bid his clubs is curious...
  19. I'm having trouble visualizing declarer only taking 1 trick. Care to elaborate? In particular, to avoid declarer winning the A♦, south needs to ruff the first diamond lead. So south can only fire two clubs through declarer, forcing out the A♣ and killing the J♣. But North is going to get endplayed and have to lead away from his T64 into declarer's 752, giving declarer a second trick. Unless I'm missing something.
  20. Typically 12 or a good 11, up to 14. Great! I wanted to know the opening strength so I could know what to GF on. If you werer rigid at 13, I might GF with 11 and a good fit. But since you open a little lighter, I shall be disciplined on the 2/1 calls. And just to let you knwo, I am an eternal pessimist. I assume everything is breaking badly and bid or work from there.
  21. I voted 2, the AJ♣, but I think you are going to get a third club trick with the 7 the way things play out. Not that that should be any consolation.
  22. It looks like 6NTW. The poll is unanimous so far, but there aren't many votes yet. I spurn the finesse and if the Q falls, I do a happy dance.
  23. I could have used you today, billw55. Sitting south, I had this hand: [hv=d=e&v=n&s=sxxxhqxxdxxxxcqxx]133|100|Scoring: IMP The bidding went: (1D)-p-(1H)-p (1S)-p-(4S)-x (p)-p-(xx)-ap[/hv] Now maybe I should have bid something over the double. But holding my hand, RvsW and knowing that the ops weren't fooling around, I passed. The ops made 12 tricks for 1280. Looking at the hand record, in 5Dx we can only take 3 tricks if the ops pull our trump. If they are nice and let us ruff a trick, we can take 4 MAYBE 5. Ludicrous. Before I forget, billw55. I would prefer 2/1, though I haven't played it very often. How do you feel about four suit transfers and Michaels cuebids? And what kind of hcp range do you like to open in 1st/2nd seat with a 5332 distribution?
