  1. It was the complete opposite scenario. I upgraded my hand and overcalled 1NT b/c I thought my ♠T is well-placed behind the opener, so this hand certainly worth one extra playing point. The heart texture is another great feature. So overall, I think this hand will be better than a lot of other 15 HCP hands. So far no one has overcall 1NT and it really surprises me. I overcalled 1NT and partner raised me to 3NT on solid 10 count w/ 5 clubs to the K. I made 10 tricks fairly easy after my LHO lead the ♠J. If you pass first round, opponent will get their D fit in, and no game can be made after that. We won 10 imps for this board but lost 16 imps on the first board where 7D went down 1 b/c our team misguessed who has 4D. Of course, any other lead will result in making, so kudos to our opp who lead the D to give us a losing option.
  2. All the problems here occurred in a recent Flight A Sunday swiss team. Board 1. Both nv. [hv=pc=n&n=s8643ht85djckt753&d=w&v=0&b=8&a=pp1sdp2cp2dp]133|200[/hv] We don't play equal level conversion (ELC), so 2D promises extra values. What is your call? Does 2H here shows forward going values or just a mere attempt to correct to a better contract? Board 2. NS vul. [hv=pc=n&s=sj3hakq6dkq85cak8&n=saqt964h8da963cq5&d=n&v=n&b=5&a=1sp2dp3dp4hp5cp5hp5sp7dppp]266|200[/hv] Okay, 4♥ is rkc for ♦, and 5♣ shows 2 rkc w/o queen. 5♥ is specific king asking, and 5♠ is suppose to show the ♠K. So, our North misbids the hand and the declarer knows other table is not going to be in this <50% vulnerable grand slam. It's time to be lucky. Your LHO lead the ♦7. RHO plays the DJ after dummy plays low. Who, east or west, is more likely to hold 4 card ♦. FYI, ♠K finisse is on. But D are 4-1 break. Board 3, Both vul. [hv=pc=n&s=sakthjt98d85caq84&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=pp1s]133|200[/hv] What call do you make? Thanks for your comments.
  3. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=sakjxhakqxdxxxcax&s=sxxxxhdakqtct9xxx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Auction 2N-3C-4C (44M max)-4H(transfer)-4S-5D-5H-6S. After CK lead, what is the best percentage play to make the contract?
  4. Seems like everybody agrees to pass on hand 1. Partner has ♠void ♥QJT9xxx ♦AK ♣AQxx Partner had an unusual hand to bid – a seven-card two-loser suit when first round controls in all side-suits and a 4½ loser hand. East opened the bidding 1♠ and pd had to plan how to try and show this hand, Being much too strong to jump directly to 4♥, he elected to double first and then over his partner’s 1NT bid which shows some values and a spade stopper, he jumped to 4♥ – feeling that 3♥ would be forcing and show better hearts and 4♥ showed a hand that wanted to be in 4♥ and hoped that this sequence would deny solid trumps. I considered slightly and passed. So the question is should partner have bid his hand differently or should I have cue-bid 5♣ over 4♥? This question comes up since declarer made thirteen tricks without even breathing hard! He ruffed the opening lead, ruffed two clubs – and the king dropped. Then he cashed the singleton ♥A – and the king dropped. Easy money!! Any blame here? With a trump lead, you need the either the singleton king or ♣ finesse (which rates to be on) and w/o one, 6♥ is just about 100%
  5. Playing swiss team. 2/1 system. 1) both white. You hold ♠Kxxxx ♥Axx ♦xxxx ♣x. LHO open 1♠, partner X, assume you bid 1NT. LHO rebid 2♠, pd jump to 4♥, what do your bid? 2) both white. You hold ♠Txx ♥QTxx ♦AJ8x ♣A9. Your partnership allows you to open all 11 HCP when white in first or second chair. So you duly open 1♦ first chair, LHO overcall 1♠, pd 2♣ (F1R), RHO pass, what do you bid? 3) both red. You hold ♠Q8x ♥K ♦AKxx ♣KQJxx. Pd open 1♠, you bid 2♣, pd 2♥, you bid 2♠, pd 4♠ shows minimum, what do you bid? 4) both white, You hold ♠Txx ♥AJTx ♦Qxx ♣Qxx. After two passes, LHO open 2♠, pd 3♦, what do you bid?
