  1. Struggling to count to 23+ total points (max. 20) so not a 2♣ opening? I'm not sure the robot can count either if the description is correct A 1♠ opening for most ending in 4♠

  2. For me it is not even a 2NT 20-21 opening. As the man above said, the book auction in a natural system is: 1♠ - 2♠ 4♠ - p and one could do much worse. If you play 1NT 14-16 and 2NT 19-20 then I can imagine: 2N - 3♣ 3♠(5card) - 4♣ 4♦ - 4♥ 4N(even KC) - 5♠ p or if you are bullishly quantitative: 2N - 4N p

  3. Can I offer an observation or question regarding the only one of David's analyses I have really looked at, including even replicating the script - NT invite or blast one Its a broader observation or question about many more specific or possibly over fitted sims There did not appear to be very much of a distribution - in the sense of the scores being highly dominated by one score - sorry difference (eg zero from memory) - what can be truly concerning though is when the confidence intervals do not include 0 or other likely numbers If you look at cumulative distributions and quantiles they may be more instructive than basing everything on means That's a question or consideration I have about all DD sims actually We happily go around working out means which even have confidence intervals including many(infinite) impossible scores - eg 95% chance of -0.003 +/- 0.12 etc :) How many hands would we have to play to get a real and genuinely significant effect too Maybe its more about looking for the best upsides or avoiding the worst downsides One thing I have noticed though is how often obviously good leads score best in lead sims :)

  4. [hv=pc=n&s=skhakqt9da5ckq875&n=sat43h3dq972cj632&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=pp1hp1sp3c(GF%2C%20nothing%20special)p4c(Undiscussed)p4d(Cue%2C%20usually%20first%20round)p5c(Slow)pp(Slow)p]266|200[/hv] Not our best attempt at the table. Both NS agreed that 4C was more encouraging than 5C, but 5C would rarely exist in case the 3C bid was a bit manufactured. South thought that North owed a 4S cue. North felt that after having encouraged with 4C, he had bid his hand. Who gets the biggest kicking? At the other table, 2C, 2D, 2H, 2S, 3NT, 4C, 6NT got to a very inferior slam, but sadly it made.

  5. This is exactly the type of hand that Gerber is designed for. But it's exceedingly rare, and the vast majority of times lower level players use it, it shouldn't have been used, which is why many people refuse to play it at all. (Or they may have a better use for the bid that comes up more regularly.)
