  1. A few months ago I managed to get Henk Uijterwaal's (update to Hans van Staveren's) dealer software working on my computers, which allowed me to generate frequency statistics for common auctions and specific bidding systems or conventions. Earlier today I found James Morse's update to the software (the most recent update being 8 days ago!), which includes Bo Haglun's Double Dummy Solver software. It can be downloaded at https://github.com/dealerv2/Dealer-Version-2-. A big thank you to Thorvald Aagaard for sharing the link over at https://www.bridgewinners.com/article/view/dealer-by-hans-van-staveren/. I've run a few quick tests and it works like a charm. And it's fast too - finding the par for 1000 deals takes just under two minutes on my laptop! Mostly I want to spread the word in case other people are looking for dealer software and/or double dummy solvers. Personally I plan to generate a host of statistics on competitive calls and pressure bidding, verifying age-old facts on 3NT vs 4M and testing some response schemes over multi-way bids. If anybody has interesting questions that could be answered with dealer software, or has expertise in/questions on using this software, I'd love to hear them.

  2. The 2♠ rebid denies as many as 10 points. With 10-11 partner would rebid 2NT (or a long suit).

  3. I would pass in a heartbeat. Game is not on and we are in the last safe contract at the 2-level. Partner is a favourite to hold 2 spades and long clubs, and then where do we want to go? 6-9 points opposite our 14 also doesn't motivate any risk-taking. We're weak, we have a misfit, get out now.

  4. MP or IMP? 3♠ will probably do for me either way. I don't see any chance of 4♠ making with at least Kxx marked on our left, and it's not like it's preemptively sacrificing over their 4 level game.

  5. MPs makes it hard. But I think my hope for setting this is the ♠K, then getting into partner's hand after winning the ♦A. How good a field is it - do I expect most to duplicate my 4♥ call, or are there some going to be in 3NT? -600 might be a huge result (if 3NT makes, it likely makes 4), +100 might not be at all enough (if 3NT goes down, it probably goes down 2 at least). What do our Michaels bids look like? mini-maxi, it's likely that partner doesn't have either major Ace, and while they should have at least one of the queens, maybe I should just play passive and get my Kings on the finesse. "stuff, especially vulnerable", and that changes. Note that the answer to this question also modifies "how many will get to/be allowed to get to 3NT?" question above - if they don't Michaels, you might not get a chance to make the 4♥ choice. It will also decide how much you think 4♥X would have gone for...
