  1. I was curious myself, so did a quick and dirty double-dummy sim. For what it is worth: North has 16 balanced, South 9 balanced. Contract is 3NT. North makes 60.7% of the time, making average tricks of 8.76. South makes 58.6%, with 8.69 trick average. That's about a 3-4% edge (to making the contract), as defended and played by Deep Finesse.

  2. Are there any studies which quantify the advantage of playing 3nt from the stronger side? I'm particularly interested in two balanced hands without a major fit, maybe 8-11 opposite 17-19.

  3. Barmar is a player in the tournament, and also a yellow on BBO. He's just making sure that everyone has the same robots to play with so its as level a playing field as possible.

  4. This shows the dangers of online stuff. I had not understood you thought it funny. It's the day in day out no relief insight nature of what is going on. A page back I linked to an interview: http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/rivals-baseball-field-congressmen-share-solidarity-shooting/ A couple of decent guys doing their best. This simple approach to life is becoming rare. Or maybe not rare, just crowded out by news of other sorts. Everyone seems to be spoiling for a fight. I find it depressing, but also I just get really tired of it. Which is not quite the same thing. Maybe it comes to this: Th e president brings the head of the FBI into his office, sends everyone else away, and tells the FBI head that he hopes he can bring the investigation of his, the president's, friend to an end. I don't want to discuss with someone how this is to be understood. It is beyond my capacity to see how this could be misunderstood. I do not need to know who the president is or which party he is from to understand what is being said. I would feel silly discussing it, I find it frustrating that some see a need for discussion. So this makes me a TURD? Ok. Fine. I think I need to leave now, I have to mow the grass. Or something. Not continue in a hopeless discussion.

  6. In reality, the advantage is probably more; Deep Finesse defends double dummy, and IRL it's a lot easier to defend with 16 of declarer's 25 points on the table rather than 9. And while a dummy dummy lead is unlikely to give anything up, a blind opening lead up to a 16 point hand is more likely to give up a trick than a blind lead up to a 9 point hand. (I'm ignoring bidding considerations; assume it goes 1NT-3NT to have the 16 point hand play and 1C*-1NT-3NT to have the 9 point hand declare. (1C 16+, artificial).

  7. On some days, we would probably repeat the auction. On some other days, I might pass as North. In MPs, I think the correct action is for South to sit it out and take the minus.

  8. Do I have a hallucinations or written explanation of 2 ♥ re-bid after 2♣ opening really is weak 2? :)
